fluctuating numbers

So for the last week I've been bouncing back and forth between 190lbs and 195lbs from day to day. I know the prevalent advice is to only weigh in once a week, but my shrink thinks there is a psychological advantage to weighing more often so there won't be a huge surprise at the end of the week if your weight has gone up, hopefully mitigating the depression/anxiety that results from said surprise. Still...5lbs on and off every day? I changed my food log to show sodium, and boy I'm screwed there. I'm consistently over with sodium, so I don't know why the water weight isn't consistent as well. My theory is that since I only have classes every other day, walking around on campus is affecting things. I would love someone else's opinion on this.

Scales fluctuate about .2lb up or down. Food weighs before you eat it and it still weighs after you eat it (not only water weighs). That could account for 5 lb, depending on your size.0

Weighing everyday seems to stress people more than help. Ones weight fluctuates about 2 pounds everyday, add water weight and so on and that can make it fluctuate further. I keep my sodium in check, get loads of water and only worry about the weight on weigh in day. I mean, I can go up as much as 6 pounds due to all the water I drink. I also however lose 2-6 pounds of water in an hour cardio session.0

Your best bet (if you feel the need to weigh every day) is to make sure you're weighing at the same TIME every day. You weight can fluctuate by 2-3 pounds just in one day, so if you're weighing at diff times, it will throw things off. I am a daily weigher myself, much for the reasons you stated... if I know where the weight is from day to day it is less likely to get me down. But I always weigh first thing in the morning, after I've been to the bathroom and before I eat. It is really pretty consistent that way. Of course, it ends up fluctuating from time to time still, but nowhere near as much....0

I just experienced the same thing. Mine was three pounds. Lost lost lost, then gained and was like WHAT. Yeah, they say weigh once a week, but that's to avoid discouragement and not give up... but I think if you keep in mind that it does fluctuate you'll be okay checking every so often. Hang in there, it will fight you only so long and start dropping again.0

Are you weighing yourself at the same time everyday? I've noticed a huge difference between weighing myself at 6am versus weighing in at 8am. I've definitely seen as much as 5 lbs fluctuation between times.
Also, if you think walking to classes might be affecting it, try walking on the days you don't have class--just however long you usually walk to get to classes. If that evens things out, then you've got your answer!0 -
This happens to me, but I'm going to stop weighing myself so much. I want to just weigh myself once a week, but I'm probably going to go to twice a week.
My mother weighs herself everyday and she ends up getting really upset about it all the time. The number of the scale doesn't matter as much as how you look in the mirror and how you feel.0
