Hi everyone. I first started birth control when I was 16. My OBGYN put me on Yaz which didn't work out for me at all. Aftet that I started missing my periods all the time. I changed birth controls asap & now am on the Nuva ring. I was diagnosed with PCOS about a 2 yeard ago. It kind of hit me really hard, esspecially with issues of infertility because one day I do plan on having kids. So anyways, I've gained ALOT of weight & I feel like I will be unable to conceive :( I've just joined a gym & I can't wait to start losing this weight because i've heard that losing weight takes away some of the PCOS symtoms. So really my question is was anyone able to conceive naturally with PCOS by just losing weight? & if you did take medications to help what were they and about how long did it take you?
Thanks so much, can't wait to hear some feedback xoxo

I was also recently diagnosed with PCOS. I've heard from a few people on this site that losing weight does sometimes help with conceiving. My husband and I are trying to have kids now, that's how I found out about the PCOS. My doctor has said that she wants to put me on meds (metformin or clomid) but she said the best thing I can do is lose the weight. That is also what I have heard from other women with PCOS.

Hey there! I have a similar story. I was on Yaz, and then Yazmin, for years (approx. 7), as a method to controlling my PCOS. Even with the pills regulating my hormones and controlling the PCOS, I still gained a lot of weight and had the same concerns as you about conceiving. Other than the birth control though, I didn't take any of the other medications, though the doctor tried to convince me to.

I lost 56 lbs. last year (completely through MFP) and I went off the pill this past December. My doctor was concerned that when I went off it, I would gain all the weight back. It has been over three months now (which is the time they say it takes for the medication to officially be out your system), and while I have definitely struggled to lose weight since December, I haven't gained any back, and have continued losing, just at a slower pace. I didn't really expect to see results yet, but I have. My periods have been extremely regular and much less painful and heavy than they were even on the pill- and compared to what it was like before I started taking it, this is nothing. I wasn't sure I'd see results until I had lost a bit more weight, but apparently, where I am at now was enough to start taking away the symptoms. And I'm thrilled.

I am not trying to conceive, but I do know a lot of people with PCOS who have done so successfully, without the aid of fertility drugs. My aunt, who also has PCOS, got pregnant just a few months after she got off the pill- she had barely even started trying. And now she is pregnant again with her second child. It really shows that there is hope!!

Best of luck to you on your journey. It is definitely much harder with PCOS- it takes longer to lose and that can be frustrating, but it is definitely worth it. Please feel free to friend me if you like- it is always good to have people on here who have gone through or are going through similar things and can be there for support and help you along the way. :flowerforyou:

i was recently diagnosed with PCOS too. But I do think I have had it for a very looooong time. I have had two children, but honestly I dont know if I had PCOS when I had them or not. I would love to find this out too since my sister is in the same situation and wants kids someday too...

First off i want to give you a huge massive hug. I have taken the road you are on and it's VERY difficult but with knowledge and support you will succeed!!

I was diagnosed in 2002 with PCOS. My first daughter was 4 years old (she was a surprise baby) and we had been Trying to conceive for 2 years when i went to an OBGYN to find out why we weren't getting pregnant. The OBGYN put me on 1000mg of Metformin. I took the metformin and birth control pills for 6 months and then started 50mg of clomid to help conceive. After 5 cycles of Clomid, We were FINALLY pregnant. 12.5 weeks later i had a miscarriage. when we tried again.. it took 4 cycles of clomid, and got pregnant but it ended in miscarriage at 7 weeks. Third time was the charm. We got pregnant on the first round of clomid and our little girl turns 4 at the end of this month. When she was 5 months old, our second surprise baby made himself known. he's now almost 3!!

Losing weight will definitely help you conceive. Watch your sugars, because PCOS is known to take the sugars that you eat and turn them into fat instead of energy like they would normally.

I highly recommended at least 1000mg of Metformin I am currently taking 1000mg 2x a day which is common for women that have extreme symptoms.
I am also taking Spironolactone it helps with the hair growth and the water retention.

when you are successful, and are able to conceive, stay on the metformin because it has been known to help prevent first trimester loss. and also a progesterone supplement is recommended from the day after ovulation until the end of the first trimester also.

Please if you have any questions or need support add me as a friend, and ask all the questions you need answers for :)
I wish you all the luck in the world!!! *hugs*
