women-breast feeding and TOM

So I had a baby 7 months ago. I am still waiting for TOM to come back. It came back at 9 months with my second, my first was a whole different stressful story. So I never thought I would miss it, but it makes tracking my eating habits crazy. So I did great last week-however we come into this week and I am like a ravenous beast rummaging through my kitchen trying to find any morsel I can put in my mouth even when I am not hungry. So I don't know if I still have the symptoms I have when I am having TOM or what. My weight has gone down even with this binge. So really I don't know if it is that or am I not getting enough to eat. I haven't logged in a few days so who knows, but I when I do log I am trying to get at least 15-1600. I usually burn around probably 500-600 cals/day. So tell me why am I a ravenous beast this week-anyone!?!

I think we all have days/weeks like this - I know I do, and I'm not even breastfeeding or have kids lol it could well be TOM. Is there anything else going on in your life that could be stressful?
Also, from what I've read we are supposed to eat 1200 calories minimum to ensure body doesnt go into starvation mode so maybe you could up your calories a bit if youre eating less than that after you take away the exercise calories (the 500-600 you are doing)?
Just an idea0 -
I just had my son 8 weeks ago- and I also had a Mirena put in 2 weeks ago... so I know that I won't actually get TOM, However- My OB/GYN told me that having those binge days like you are is perfectly normal and its just your body trying to balance out those hormones. I am also breastfeeding, and he told me that until a few months after i am done breast feeding i will have PMS like symptoms on occasion0

I'm waiting for TOM at the moment and I've been ravenous for three days... :grumble:
No 'filling' food seems to satisfy: Yesterday I made myself an awesome sandwich for lunch with a whole (but small) seasoned and sliced chicken breast with salad in it. I was still hungry at 3pm. 3pm is my nemesis time for food anyway let alone right now!
I'm doing more exercise to compensate.
Getting back to your question: Yes, it could well be TOM!0 -
According to kellymom BFing moms should get 1500-1800 calories a day without working out....so anything you burn you should probably be eating back. Are you adding extra cals for nursing? Obviously everyone is different, but I have my profile set to lose 1 lb a week, add 300 extra cals for nursing, and eat back my workout cals. The cals you take in go to milk production first and foremost then what's left is what your body uses for energy so could be you're just not getting enough. Some days I eat well over 2000 cals, but still lose because my body needs it.
I don't notice a difference during that TOM besides wanting more sweets, but that may be because I'm eating so much already0 -
I am in a similar boat! With both my boys TOM came back around 9 months and my girl is coming up for 9 months now and the past few weeks I have had days where I just want to eat anything and everything in sight! I thought it was TOM coming back but still no appearance. I guess we just have to wait it out!
I think with the hunger it's as much tiredness and stress - I just need to identify those stressful days - today is definitely one!!! - and make a real effort to drink lots of water and try to resist snacking temptation!0
