Ok, so I an NOT a breakfast eater, give me a couple of cups of coffee in the AM and I am good till around 12-1pm. I know this is not good and have been making an effort to eat something every morning. So here is my problem: I have been told that you should eat within the first hour of getting up, I have also been told that you should not eat before working out, and then again that you should eat right before you work out. I get up at 615am, get the kids around and on the bus, I leave my house about 710, as soon as the bus leaves. I had not been eating untill I got home and doing fine (no weight loss though) so I started trying to eat some fruit before I went to the gym. It just does not feel right though. Is there really a right answer as to when you should break fast? =/

I wasn't a breakfast eater either, until I started I really had no weight loss at all. For the past 2 weeks I have been exercising in the mornings and then having breakfast. Lowfat and low calorie and I think it is working, I have lost 13 lbs in these 2 weeks. As for the eating or not eating before a workout, I would guess it depends on the person and what time you workout. I would say at least 90 mins before a workout so your food has time to digest and you won't get cramps.0

I try and eat a little something before my workout. Maybe a banana, orange, or at least a glass of juice. That at least gives me some fuel to burn. Then after my workout is when I eat my breakfast. I was like you though. I hated eating breakfast and had to retrain my body to enjoy it and be hungry in the morning. That's what this whole process is though. Retraining our bodies to do something different. Good luck!0

I can't eat anything before my workout (besides coffee) because I will throw up. I do high intensity workouts. I've never been much of a breakfast eater, sometimes I eat it, sometimes I don't. It hasn't affected me in the least...as long as you get your calories in for the day, and you're not so hungry you binge. it is up to the individual person and it truly does not matter.0

Really a right answer, I doubt it. But there is a lot of research that claims people that eat a "healthy" (whatever that is) breakfast are more likely to not over eat and overall weigh less then those that do not eat breakfast. Do goggle search I'm sure you will find plenty of info
As for before or after exercise, I don't know what kind of exercise you do, but a little before won't hurt, nor will some after, play around with it and see how it works for you.0 -

Here are a couple articles for you0 -
What I do is eat a piece of toast with some almond butter on it (and my coffee and water) when I get up with my older son at 6:00 a.m. I workout after I take my younger son to school at 7:30 so I've had a little time to digest that food but I have something in my system. Then I eat my egg whites and breakfast meat when I get home from working out. I agree though there is no right answer and you will find conflicting advice all over the internet so do what works for you. (I personally am a breakfast eater and get sick if I don't eat something).0

I'm not a breakfast eater either but I guess I have to start doing it. I just started Insanity, and going by that it says that you should eat an hour or more before you work out so that you have the fuel you need to get through the workout, but not eat exactly right before it.0

I never ate breakfast earlier either..I was more of a brunch person before retraining myself with that said. If you eat before you work out I would suggest you eat something light when you wake up. Not right before you work out. You want it to have time to digest. So grab a hand full of grapes or nuts....sometimes bananas can cause upset stomachs so tread lightly with that one. If that still doesn't do it for you a piece of 100% whole wheat toast might sit better on your stomach.
The rule of thumb is 5 to 6 meals a day for healthy weight loss. It keeps your metabolism going.0 -
i need a small amount of food before working out in the am, like a piece of toast. Otherwise I feel sick on the machines but if I eat too much I feel sick too. So a small snack works for me.0
