Hi all just need some help here....I am working out about an hour a day and just got a heart rate monitor yesterday....would have been key to my success months ago, but I digress.
So today did 37 min on the treadmill and only 1:37 min was fat burn and 35 min on elliptical only 7:32 was fat burn.
I know the fat burn occurrs at a lower heart rate but it seems like I am not really working out and making it count if Im not working hard with a full jog or whatever.
1. How do I access more fat burn and feel like I have really gotten in a good workout?
2. Which calorie burn count matters? the one on my machine or the one on the monitor? Looking at my home machines they seem to over estimate how many calories I burned in comparison with the heart rate monitor. Also the times and calorie burn here given is a 3rd different #....Confusing.
Haven't compared the monitor with the gym machines where you enter in all your personal data height weight etc to see how close the gym machine and the monitor match.

what i learned from working at a physical therapy center (which may be out dated information)
for the first 3 min of exercise your body burns oxygen
the next 18 minutes your body burns carbs
so at the 22 minute mark your body will start burning fat, most people notice this and get tired and find it hard to keep going
I find this almost every single work out the 22 minute mark my body hurts a little and I have to slow down.
So to burn for fat try going for longer work outs. like 45-60 minutes.0 -
thanks...longer workouts but then slower also? or at the same rate of intensity?0
