i've heard very negative things about this machine like it doesn't burn any fat and only makes your thighs bigger. is this true? it works out the inner thigh which is the part that i want to work out the most so i'm hesitant to stop using. has anyone had a bad experience with this machine?

I love it.
Combined with cardio, I'm seeing my thunder thighs slim down. :noway:
Using the outer thigh adductor too, and seeing my hip saddle bags receed a bit. :noway:
Makes me a  girl!0 -
I love this maching as well!!! It is great to begin seeing definition. Good luck!0

I just started using this machine a couple of weeks ago. I like it so far. I'm just not sure how far down my inner-thighs it will work. The rest of my legs are pretty solid, but my inner-thighs definitely need some help. Unfortunately, it's the only machine in my gym that will work the inner-thighs. I would love to hear some other suggestions about how to work them though. Maybe different stuff I can do at home?0

I've been an athlete my whole life and always had huge, muscular thighs as a result. Now that I'm not training for anything, I've stopped lifting and started just doing pilates and running. My thighs have never been thinner. I'VE been thinner, but never my thighs I love it. I never found the abduction machine to be particularly evil, but lifting in general was bad for me. I build muscle easily. Pilates is my new favorite workout!0

doing weighted lunges and squats both work the inner thigh as well0

I do squats, but I didn't even think about lunges (probably 'cuz I hate 'em) at home. Thanks for the suggestion.0 -
I cant do lunges, because I have problems with my knees, so the hip abduction and adduction are great for me. I love it!0

I like this machine. I don't use too many machines, preferring free weights, but I do like the hip abduction machine. My physical therapist was fine with me using it too - and I had gone to her with a badly torn hip flexor from getting bumped "just right" by my dog when finishing a long run. I don't think it's a miracle machine, by any means, but just another way to work some specific muscles that I can't work too many other ways.0

Hello shahrazad990, this is a question alot of women present due to fear of gaining muscle mass. Your enemies are extramuscular and intramuscular fat. Hip abduction is a resistance activity and will only work the "hip abductor group" primarily gluteus medius which is located on the side of your pelvis and runs to the top of your hip. That being said being that most abductor machines are positioned relative close to the hip itself this (gluteus medius) is the primary muscle being worked. Secondly, when it comes to fitness intramuscular fat is best burned by high repitition/low weight activities specific to that muscle/muscle group (preferrably reps in the 12-15 range). Where is both intra/extramuscular are burned by cardiovascular acitvity.
So to answer your questions no hip abduction won't make your thighs larger, but maybe your hips if you get into the 8-12 rep range. To increase girth of your thighs you'd be looking at squats/leg press, lunges or knee flexion/extension style therex. Hope this helps.
God bless,
Angelo0
