Hi Ya'll,
So I am traveling on business to KSC and was wondering if anyone is from there on here that could give me some ideas on food from some of the great restaruants. I did not want to have to take my JC food but i do have not gone out to too many places since i started my plan in February. I am already going to stressing out over the cafeteria food, i know that they have good food cause i have eatin there before. But now it's the going out to dinner in the evenings that i am going to worry about too! UGH!

I have some ideas on what i am going to do, but i just thought i would see if you guys had any ideas.

Thanks!

Hi, Kelley! I work at KSC, but I rarely eat out since I've decided to eat healthy. I would definitely avoid the on-site cafeteria - their food is loaded with fat and sodium. The salads are OK, but they have no healthy dressings, and the soups have enough salt to choke ya. Their breakfasts are OK - they do have oatmeal, yogurt, and fruit, but it's hard to by-pass the biscuits and gravy and bacon smells!

Assuming your hotel is at the Cape or in Cocoa Beach, there are all the usual chain restaurants available, for better or worse. There are also a lot of local places that may have some decent choices. Tons of seafood, if you like that, although that doesn't necessarily mean it's healthy! There's a Sunseed health food co-op on A1A in Cape Canerveral if you want to shop for organic. I wish I could be of more help, but like I said, I never eat out unless it's a special occasion, and then I don't care if it's healthy!

Feel free to PM me when you get here if you need anything. Have a great trip!

Awesome, thanks for the tips. I am out here in Houston at NASA, it's cool to hear from someone that is actually onsite.

We are going to be there in the SSPF building all week and no going off site for lunches. So maybe i will just bring my own salad dressing, that way i wont have to worry about the dressings there. Do they have a microwave in the cafateria, i could bring my own JC meals if there was. I will figure out something, i want to try and keep up my calorie levels cause i will be using the gym at the hotel (Radisson). But i feel the only calories i will be getting is at dinner time. LOL This is gonna be tough!

Bringing your own dressing is a great idea! There are several cafeterias, and I've never been to the one near the SSPF. I used to go to the one near the OSB, and they do have a microwave and allow you to bring in your own food. I think if you stock your mini fridge at the hotel with healthy snacks and get some fruit and stuff you should be OK. Let me know if you need me to bring you anything you don't have time to shop for - it's no problem to run to the store and make a delivery. I used to travel a lot for work so I know how challenging it can be to try to stick to a healthy eating plan on the road.

BTW - If you don't have time or the gym at the Radisson is too crowded, there's a pretty decent free gym at the O&C building, which I believe is near the SSPF. It's open at 0500 til 1900 M-F.

Anything I can do, let me know. See ya soon!
