So I do an hour long Kickboxing/ cardio class Mon and Wed. I am always sore :grumble: , and a co-worker of mine said I should drink a protein shake after working out :drinker: . Is this true? She said it would replace the amino acids i have lost. I though you only need a protein shake after doing weight training... which ones should I drink?

I drink a protein shake when I've had a particularly intense workout, like I did today. Plus it helps to curb the hunger.

It's always good to refuel after any kind of workout. Whether it's a protein shake or a real-food meal. As long as you give yourself some carbs and some protein, the format doesn't matter all that much.

Protein is a great idea, have to fuel the muscles you just tore to make them nice and lean. for the soreness drink lots of water, stretch and do some of the move the next day. It will help.

I have a protein shake and some carbs after any type of excercise.
Even if you aren't weight training, your muscle fibers still get damaged and have to recover.

After soccer games or something long and streneous (like your kickboxing) I usually do 1 or 2 scoops of protein and some oats to get carbs.

i drink a shake after my long runs which are all cardio and not strength training...it helps to avoid stiffness the next day. I drink optimum nutrition 100% gold standard whey in extreme chocolate milk...cheap, yummy, and mixes well with water or milk!

Would a Fiber one bar count? That has a little protein and some carbs from the oats..

Cardio sessions can actually deplete muscle tissue, which you DON'T WANT! After all muscle burns fat faster... the best way to combat this is to get in some protein within 30 minutes of your workout!

I did a quick search of the nutritional info. Seems ok, but a bit low in protein for my taste (only 2-3g per bar it seems). But if the choice was between that or nothing, definitely go for the bar.
