Azuleelan, my sister mentioned being concerned about the traffic, but even after I explained to her that I was taking safe side roads, she continued. My dad's tone yesterday was definitely sarcastic and patronizing. The other day, he asked me if I could bake cupcakes for his work while on my diet and he was being serious and considerate, so I can tell the difference.

My mother (who unfortunately I don't live with) is extremely, sometimes overly supportive, so it evens out a little.

That sounds awful. It's like they feel threatened by this change... My grandpa went nuts when I started checking the mail BEFORE him (ok, not food related but still), i mean truly nuts. I'm sorry they are behaving that way, it's just awful to feel the need to keep family far away from us, but sometimes they need to be...
I say walk, woman, walk on the side roads! And really, this is the most obvious thing to say, but ignore them. While you tie your sneakers, ignore them. While they make obnoxious remarks, ignore them... only look or reply when they say something positive!! Train them like that!

I love that you looked for the good in the situation Azuleelan, and they frequently mean well. There are just a lot of issues in my house. My relationship with my family will be much better once I move out and get to be on my own.
  • People are so close-minded. Living unconsciously really is what it boils down to. I hate when people say "yuck" to something that they haven't even tried! I mean I can see if it's like rocky mountain oysters or something because I don't think I would stick the balls of an animals in my mouth but really? I just had a co worker tell me that egg rolls are gross and she hasn't even tried them! Errrrrr Where is everyone's thrill for something new and different? :D
