Heart Rate Monitor

Hey all you MFP'ers!
I have been researching HRMs for the past 2 months and have yet to find solid info on a specific one to get... the reviews are all so torn between them being accurate or not.... Does anyone have one they use for working out that accurately counts calories as well as your heart rate? Was it reasonably priced??

I use a Polar (cant remember the exact model but will come back to you!). I find it comfortable to wear, easy to use, easy to read calories/heart rate while I am exercising. It links fine with the gym equipment (treadmill etc).
I bought it online for about $200 (Aussie). You can get cheaper but from research Polar has a good name.
My PT worked out the calories I should be burning compared to what the HRM calcuated and said it was spot on

Polar FT4. $90. Love it. Simple and does what i need. Gives me calories burned, total workout time, Max and Average HR for workout.
Researched it's caloric burn calculation. The studies that were done show that the algorithm Polar uses yields comparable results to the gold standard ,VO2 Max testing.

polar F6 based on the reviews on this site at the time. I did a search for heart rate monitor on the message boards and did a lot of reading. Love mine!0

I have a polar ft4 paid 92 with tax and have yet to file for my $10 rebate lol You might be able to find one online or on sale.
it allows me to set my height, weight, age and target HR range (easy to update weight to keep it accurate) has a chest strap and a wrist watch type of receiver. It counts calories, determines your max heart rate, tells you how long you were in your set "zone" during a workout and keeps your training files for statistics. There is no means to upload data to a website as some have, but it does work with machines that have HRM built in.
I love it and think it's worth every penny I paid for it. Oh, you can also use it when you swim so it's water proof (I forget the depth).
The only tricky thing I found in the beginning is that you have to moisten the strap with tap water or it doesn't register with the watch consistently. If you do that it works like a charm!
ETA: oh it also keeps a total since you started it of time and calories burned - pretty cool!0 -
Polar FT4 is the one I have, love it, no complaints. Google it!0

Yes it has a strap! That's what makes it so accurate!0
