Less Waste

My NSV has to do with waste (rather than my waist)

I've always bought a lot of fruit and veg when I do the grocery shopping (because I knew I was SUPPOSED to) and my wife used to complain that it would just sit in the fridge and spoil. (Especially things like cucumber, cherry tomatoes and celery, which she doesn't like.)

I've noticed over the last few weeks that we don't seem to be throwing out spoiled fruit and veg like we used to. I'm eating so much more of them both, that I eat it while it's still fresh.

I'm also trying to increase the amount and variety of vegetables that I cook when I make dinner and including more fruit in the kids packed lunches.

Great job! We're making better use of our fresh food in the fridge too!

This is still something I'm working on. I always have grand ideas of eating all the fruits and veggies I buy from the store and a lot of them do end up going bad, but I'm getting better!

If I'm affraid they are going bad I throw them in the freezer. I don't par boil or anything Just put them in a freezer bag or container.
When I make a vegetable soup I throw them all in. If I have fruit, I cut it all up and put a topping of oatmeal, little brown sugar and flour, cinnamon, and smart balance. Sprinkle it on top and bake it. Makes a great dessert.
no reason to ever throw anything away again.
