I've heard a lot of hype about work out videos and I really want to try one. Problem is, I am still recovering from shoulder surgery and can't really put any weight on my right arm for another month or two. I'm really tired of just jogging and would like to try something new. For all of you that have used the videos, do you think it would be worth it to try one and just leave out the shoulder exercises? Or would it be a waste of my time?

I think that the walking ones definatly get my heartrate up but are probably in better shape than I am. They dont have that many arm things. I dont know. I have heard of people using netflicks to get the videos if you have an account. So you dont have to buy them.

The dance workouts are always fun and are easy to modify for your shoulder problems... if you're looking for cardio you could try that... :)

Are you able to do yoga?

I always use to think, how is that a work out? You are just standing there, posing, stretching.

Well, my wife has a couple of these yoga DVD’s at home and when I was training for my half marathon in 2009, one of the things on the training schedule was a “stretching day”. Basically a 30 minute stretching session to make sure you don’t hurt yourself.

So I decided to just pop in one of those DVD because there was a specific 30 minute yoga routine on it. And I figured I would just do that for the stretching day.

OMG, I take my words back. The first time I did it, Yoga kicked my *kitten*. I honestly sweat more during that 30 minutes then jogging for 3 miles. I loved it.

It is definitely not a waste of time. I did it for 9 weeks and I noticed that it changed my body. It is sort of hard to explain, but I changed the way I walked, sat, stood, jog, etc. I wouldn’t say that it generally made me lose tons of weight (I didn’t have must to lose to begin with) but it is like it changed the shape of my body. I don’t know, maybe there are some yoga people out there that can explain it better than me.
