Alrighty... I spend about 15 hours commuting per week and do a lot of reading on the train. Unfortunately, I've now re-read my entire collection along with all of the books my friends and family have. Does anyone have some good suggestions on books? I'm open to anything... Thanks!!

The Patrick Kenzie/Angela Genarro series by Dennis Lehane. The Myron Bolitar series or "The Innocent" by Harlan Coben. The Women's Murder Club by James Patterson. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. The Lord of the Rings series. And don't discount it just because of the author, but "The Host" by Stephenie Meyer (who wrote Twilight series) was AMAZING!!!0

I'm currently reading Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and I'm really enjoying it. The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls is really good too. Sleepwalk with Me by Mike Birbiglia is hilarious. Anything by Christopher Moore or David Sedaris are good too.0

I really like Malcolm Galdwell for non-fiction. He wrote Outliers, Blink, and The Tipping Point. If you've every read Freakonomics (great book), his books are a little like that. They really make you think. I also really like books about Financial Fraud (Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, etc.) The Smartest Guys in the Room (Enron) was fantastic; it reads like a novel, and I learned that I knew very little about what really happened there.
I haven't had a lot of time for pleasure reading (fiction) in a while, but I remember that Wicked was really good, as well as The Secret Life of Bees. I've probably read Angela's Ashes and The Glass Castle (both biographies, but both read like fiction) at least 4 times. I love anything from Jane Austen (but Pride and Prejudice will always be my favorite). Shutter Island was a great book, but I read it before I saw the movie (I think it might lose some of its power if you've seen the movie or know how it ends). Oh and Dive from Clausen's Pier was very good too!0 -

anything by paulinna simmons, especially Tully, eleven hours and the bronze horseman trilogy. other half decent authors i think are kathy reichs, karen slaughter and erica spindler. anything written by james pattison tends to be a good bet. i enjoyed the shack too. i guess it depends on what sort of book you like, me i like anything with pages0

Thanks for the help ladies! I'll be looking in to all of these in the next couple of days. Regarding a Kindl or a Nook... Don't you have to pay for the books still? I'd hate to have to buy the thing and then buy the books as well (seems counterproductive)... also, does it really read easily? I feel like it'd be weird to read on...0

Some books are free, but most you have to pay for...but they are a lot cheaper. It's not that bad to read on, to be honest. i thought the same thing and I really like it. I won't do that forever though...I love pages being turned and the smell of old library books.
I'm reading Hungry by Crystal Renn right now. Before that I read Diary of an exercise addict. I read a lot of eating disorder stuff so I can understand what I went through better and how to avoid getting back to that stage. And recovery stories always make me feel like it is possible.
But if you are intrested in the fashion world and how F*ed up it is, Hungry is a good insight.0 -
I agree about The Host. It was great. Although It may just be me (I can be a little slow to catch on), but I had a hard time at first, I had no clue what was going on! But once I got it I was hooked! Water for Elephants was good. ANYTHING by Jodi Picoult is good. 19 Minutes, My Sister's Keeper, Change of Heart, The Pact. All of her books are amazing. I am currently reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I am starting to really enjoy it. I read on average 3 books a week so I love when people post these! I get great ideas, make a list of books, and take it to my library so they can order them for me! Happy reading everyone!!0

Not just you sarah! It took me the first couple chapters to "get it". I was sure I was going to hate it until then.I agree about The Host. It was great. Yep, I love me some Jodi Picoult! I'm really liking Susan Elizabeth Phillips, a lot of her books are very similar and they're all cheesy *kitten* romances, but I can't help but love them lol0
