Breakfast dilemma

Heyhey.
I have a little problem with my breakfast.
Every day I eat AB condensed milk with brown sugar and muesli.

I was told today that it was too high in sugar, and grain and dairy...

Now my question to you all is:
What can I replace my breakfast with?

Greetings
Rakel

can you use regular milk instead of condensed? Oatmeal with skim milk and a little brown sugar would be a good option.

    some of my breakfasts:

2 rice cakes and a bit of peanut butter
    oatmeal and yogurt
1 egg with mushrooms and peppers

I always have a 10 am snack so I don't need much at breakfast.

    a fruit smoothie which includes;

    almond milk 1/2 cup
    flax oil 1 T.
    banana 1/2 cup
    mango 1/4 cup
    strawberry 1/4 cup
    nonfat organic yogurt 1/4-1/2 cup

i use frozen fruit so i don't add ice but i do add about a 1/2 cup of filtered water to loosen it all up in the blender. ENJOY:))

wow! I've not heard of condensed milk for years! I used to love it, but yeah, its high in everything! Can't you replace that with skimmed milk? And the sugar with splenda or agave or stevia?

You'll find there are substitutes for most things these days.

I just have wholemeal toast with a dairylea cheese triangle, followed by yogurt and blueberries if I work out.

    Good luck :flowerforyou:
  • Oatmeal, and not the instant stuff. It's one of the best things you can eat in the morning! Throw on some skim milk and slivered almonds. Amazing!

I just love having porridge (oatmeal) for breakfast as it keeps me full till lunchtime and you can add so many different toppings.... But I second the comment about adding normal milk instead on condenced, the little changes make such a difference

    hmm. Oatmeal I can do.
I really don´t fancy eating muesli with normal milk, since the condensed milk is kinda like a sour yoghurt...

    Thanks :)

Also, rice cakes? My trainer banned me from those forever... as in "don´t eat those... ever"...
So, I probably won´t start my mornings with those.

    Thanks for the ideas :)

Yum, I never thought of adding almonds to oatmeal :)

I did try putting raisins, apples and cinnamon, and that tastes yummy :)

So for the mornings where I have time to cook, oatmeal (with varieties) is a good option, and for the hurried mornings, perhaps a toast with cheese and a yoghurt?

    Thanks :)

If you're using condensed milk because milk goes bad in your fridge, you might switch to evaporated milk instead.

It's good for your breakfast to be a little carb-heavy, because that gets your metabolism going in the morning.

And what's possibly wrong with low-fat dairy in the morning?

If cooking eggs in the morning is doable, I highly recommend an egg white omelet with vegetables. I used to eat oatmeal every morning with raisins and almonds. but an egg white omelet with spinach, tomatoes, peppers and mushrooms has SO few calories and fills me up even more because of the high level of protein.

Okay, I think I´ve got the wrong idea about what condensed milk is...

What I called condensed milk, is sort of like a yoghurt in texture and thickness, but tastes really really sour. It needs to be refrigerated like any other milk...

Mmm. Ommelette sounds really good actually.
I can´t use tomatoes or peppers though, allergic to them.
    But mushrooms I can do...

    sounds yummy :)

Condensed milk is sugary sweet and is often put in pies and stuff.
Are you describing buttermilk? I wouldn't know.

Whoah. No. That´s definitely not what I´m talking about...

Hmm. Maybe it´s a specially icelandic food, like skyr...

Not really sure how I can describe it.

Except it´s milk that´s been "condensed" until it´s very sour and thick. Then you put sugar on it, and add some kind of cereal to get the grain... It does store better than regular milk. Can keep for up to 3 weeks in a fridge after opening.

    Hey nice :)

I actually found the type of AB milk I eat in the morning in the list.
It´s called Ms - AB mjólk

You can see it in my breakfast for the day, I just changed it ... did not even think it was possible to find an icelandic product on that list...

Sounds like a yogurt. Is it fermented?

Why not have an unsweetened muesli with non-fat yoghurt instead?

    Yep, it´s fermented.
Totally unsweetened, until you add your own sugar/sweetener, or muesli.

    I have to admit.
I bought that muesli ages ago, and can´t remember the brand name, but I´m pretty sure it´s unsweetened.
It has oatmeal, almonds, all sorts of nuts, fruits and raisins in it.
I just picked another kind of muesli brand, so as to have some reference.
Next time I buy muesli, I´ll make sure to check the brand name.

In the United States we have sweetened condensed milk, that is what people make caramel and pies out of.

Condensed milk in the US isn't sweetened.
