Going CAMPING!!!!

Alright, don't think I am totally weird, but I am freaking out a little about this. Mostly cause I remember all the previous camping trips with my family (It's my immediate family reunion...so all my bros, their wives, kids....you get the pic). I was ALWAYS intensely sick every time we went and I am horrified to have to deal with that again.
I have been using this site on and off since May (crazy summers....always kill me). Anyway, the last month or so I've been hitting it hard. Don't get me wrong, I still have the mentality that there are no "off limits" foods, to still enjoy, etc.....BUT i have been repeatedly assured by EVERYONE in the family that the meals they are doing (each family gets a cook night) will not be anything even resembling healthy!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! :explode: Not me, dang we are havin pepper steak, rice, corn and a choice of zucchini cake or banana bars. I am not sure one meal of "decently" tame calories will be able to make up for 4 days of crap!!!!!
Top it off, my family stresses me out in general. I mean we haven't even left and they are stressing me. My mom's swim suit didn't fit right so I had to tell my brother we had to wait for it.....well him =:explode:
Then my father (who I struggle with anyway) is complaining cause I got a variety of those 100 Calorie pack snacks (yeah I know processed but it's better then a regular sized bag or free digging). Hello....not all of us are ok with being heavy (my family....are voluptuous people). :grumble:
Also, my siblings have a tendency to just let their kids run wild......and just expect everyone else to keep an eye on them..... I only had one for a reason, cause mentally it's all I can keep an eye on right now. Cause I am still "single" I get stuck with the job. I can't do my regular work outs either!!! I know I will be in nature and can hike, swim, etc....but the reality of it is....we are kinda lazy when we camp! I've worked sooo hard the last month and you can actually see the results in my shape. It's also how I burn stress.....:ohwell:
I know I am totally complaining and whinning, and I HATE that, but I am just freaking out. My dad and some of my brothers (even one who's using this site) give me such grief cause I am actually trying and it's interfering with their views and attitudes towards foods. It's like...."Yes, I know fried chicken isn't good for you, but if it's what you got, peel off the skin and don't eat it......"
I am hoping to survive this weekend without putting ALL 6 lbs of weight back on cause my fiance is comin back from training on Sat and I don't want to be sick and all bloated cause of the food.
Can I cry now....
Thanks for letting me vent/whine, I appreciate it.

If you must eat stuff that you consider unhealthy, then think small. A few bites of cake, or one piece of fried chicken, instead of two or three, with the skin peeled off, can get you through. Play with your food, talk alot during the meal, instead of shoveling in something you really don't want to eat, drink water or non-caloric drinks like iced tea or diet sodas. When your family sees you putting things into your mouth they are less likely to ride you about your "strange" diet. And in the end, what the hell do you care what they think, anyway? They don't really care about your diet, because it reminds them that they are not doing right by themselves, and that makes them feel guilty. Easier to pick on you than support your efforts. Hang in there. Be strong.0

First off I really like your new hair-cut you look like a different person!
Stop stressing!! You've already planned ahead with bringing your own snacks and you know what to expect. So keep in mind everything in moderation, don't fill your plate and only eat half of what's on your plate.
Tell your family this is what you are doing and thats that!! End of discussin! And if they keep it up walk away and smile.
Try to have a good and enjoy the outside enen if the company is not so great:laugh:
You know what you want so just be strong and stay positive:flowerforyou:

Oh, I so understand. We have a camping trip coming up as well, and I know there will not be a lick of healthy food there. If it's there, I eat it. I know myself well enough to know that I have no will power, and my best defense is to stay away from it. If there is a cake there, I will eat it. And I have no power over the food choices as every family going gets to pick and prepare one meal. We are going for the first time, so we are not in charge of a meal, just coffee. (at least I know the coffee will be good, maybe I can fill up on that!)
And, by the way, your face looks a lot skinnier!!!0 -
you would have to ask Tanzamama.. shes my friend on here ... so you can check her out on my profile.. and talk to her...... (shes also my friend in real life.... i go to her a lot.. we use to be co workers)... but anyway............. she camps all the time....i know she takes her own food... who cares what others are eating.. take youR own meals.. and eat what you want... then it will also let your family know that .... you are serious.............and look... there are a tonS of us that eat the 100 calorie packs.... they are good..and they satisfY the cravings.......TAKE YOUR OWN FOOD... .. sounds like they do what my family does.. and making youR weight loss and your attempt to keep on track..... a guilt trip..when they want to eat right and dont..... you have to see what they are doing and dont let them do it to you... be detremined.... im struggling emotionally right now.. cause of my families actions.. and they havent seen me for years.... so i know how a push over family works..... HANG IN THERE .. TAKE YOUR OWN MEALS............... AND FIT IN A WORK OUT ON THE CAMP TRIP... AND GET IN TOUCH WITH TANZAMAMA.... AKA... ANGIE0

Ok, I TOTALLY know where you are coming from. I just went camping for a week with my family and it sounds very similar to you experience. With in 15 mins my mother implied that I was an alcholic (sp? I can spell it because I am drunk right now, j/k). She accused my sister of being a bad mom. Then My sister had to go back to work and I was left to watch her three kids, my two boys and my mother all stressed out yelling at everyone. SUPER fun! Then the food, my family cooked and it was the same as yours, nothing healthy. So here is your light at the end of the tunnel......
I brought most of my food for breakfast and lunch, I ate totally healthy. For dinners I made the best choice I could and did portion control. At night I did alow myself smores (yum!). We too are lazy campers, however I did fit in some walks and a bike ride with the kids. All in all I did not gain any weight. I think all my hard work before paid off. Anyhow, hope that helps. And try to enjoy!!!!

You guys are great and I am taking notes on this....and thanks for the hair compliment....
I can't pack my own meals cause we have limited space in the cars going up. "Someone" (aka Dad) thinks he's too old to not pack the house (he's in creature comfort mode). Go fig. Also, my brother FREAKED when I told him we needed to stick around for my mom's swimsuit to show up. He's all crazy to go to this hole-in-the-wall GREASY burger joint....
The cakes I made are surprisingly healthy ( I may post em).....they are made in those BIG cookie sheets so the pieces aren't too big (well....unless I let my brothers do the cutting). Also, I made a TON of those Hungry Girl "brownie" muffins for breakfast....I may allow a tiny splurge at the BIG breakfast (since we only do it twice a year).
I am hoping for the best....
I am not so worried about what then THINK per say....(cause I shoot my mouth off at them enough for out of line comments). I just am sick of their crap (excuse the language kids). It's like...."WTH this is MY vacation too!"0 -

I'm so sorry.
How much of your own food can you take? (Can you bring your own foods and pretty much feed yourself?) I've got food allergies and have pretty much fended for myself for more than a dozen years during family stuff. You can plain and simple refuse to eat foods you don't want to - but it can take quite a backbone in some families. If there are cooking facilities how about bringing some basics for yourself - plain potatoes for baking for example. Then you could have a sliver of steak with it. How about some fruit? Organic apples are so amazing anytime, think how good it would taste in the wilderness.
Whatever you do good luck. I know you'll think of something workable.
As for being stuck babysitting - how about you being the first to disappear on a walk or hike or fishing trip. If anyone (how dare them) mentions it as if it is your responsibility, laugh it off. Maybe next year they'll hire someone to come with and do babysitting.
edit - sorry I didn't read you don't have much room, but a few items don't take that much room and can save you big time.0 -

I have snuck in those healthy muffins, the meal me and my brother are cooking is healthy-ish, the desserts I made are pretty decent, and I did squish in a few 100 calorie packs (cause they are doing a lot of chips and sandwiches for lunch).
My mom is diabetic so we'll have some fruits and stuff around, just not tons.
My siblings families have a tendency to eat whatever is in site.....so if they see it they take it and eat it. (It's totally rude....but that's a whole other thread in itself.)
I am gonna do a killer work out tomorrow to hopefully save me a little for eating out for lunch.
Then I will cross my fingers and hope for the best. :laugh:0
