Should you always eat after cardio?

I did extra cardio today because I went over my daily calories. After burning extra calories I have a little over 300 calories left. I'd prefer not to eat (since eating too much is the reason I went and did extra cardio) - but for days like today I need to know if I should always eat after cardio or not (and also the reason for such.) TIA :)

there is no phisological reason you should eat before or after a workout. if you've gotten enough nurition throughout the day then you'll be fine. i would however drink something, water or gatorade though after.

I have heard from several trainers, that eating one piece of hard candy is good to help reestablish your blood sugar. I also found that my body likes really clean protein after a hard work out. Think sushi, fish, and fresh wet fruits like watermelon

Could you elaborate? I always read that it's good to get protein in after weight training. I also heard that after cardio it's great to eat some fruit (like onawho stated.) I'm wondering to what extent this should be done, etc.
