I leave on my cruise this Sunday and I don't want to undo my progress! I would love to hear tips from people about keeping on track during the trip!

I sadly can't access MFP while I am away due to internet access/phone costs and I don't want ruin the trip by spending all of my time counting calories or sweating in the gym.

If you have any quick tips, please share them! (I am going on the Carnival Victory to St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, and St.Maarten)

Thanks in advance! :)

You're not going to undo your progress by going on a cruise. Personally, I think you should just enjoy yourself. Of course, don't overdo it and makes yourself sick (like I probably would, lol), but enjoy yourself! It's a vacation for goodness sake! :) Have fun.

even if you dont know the exact amount of calories you are eating in the food they prepare for you, you should still write it down. bring a lil notebook and keep track of the amount you are eating. just writing down how much and aprox. calories will keep you on track. i know i wouldnt drink 3 mixed drinks if i wrote down that i think each one has 300 calories. but if i was just going out and having a good time (not counting at all), i probably would regret it.

Don't use the elevators, use the stairs instead. Plan to use the gym once or twice. Eat very healthy at breakfast and lunch and be as good as you can be at dinner. We did this on our last cruise and did not loose any but did not gain any... I thought that was pretty good for a seven day cruise. Have a great time!
  • Most of the eateries on board (with the exception of buffets) will prepare the food the way you want it. Just ask! As far as taking food on board - many cruise lines don't allow this.

Don't drink too much alcohol, carry water with you as much as possible. use the fitness room if you can. I'm going on my first cruise in May and people said they knew people who actually lost weight. Don't overdo it at meal time.

I went on a cruise, and the food is everywhere!

But you can aim for healthier options. They have a lot of different fruits, salads, and vegetables you can go for. Write everything down that you're eating, then guestimate the calories. This may help you stay on track better.

And don't forget to exercise. There's usually a lot of opportunities to stay active by swimming, using the fitness room, or jogging on the track around the deck. (A morning jog in the middle of the ocean is absolutely the best thing ever!)

I think you'll do fine as long as your mindful of what you're eating and stay active.

Last of all, take me with you!!!
  • Hi!

Keep focused. You can do this and enjoy your cruise at the same time. I went on a 12 day cruise to the Greek Islands
and lost 1 1/2 pounds. The best thing I did was keep the booze down to a minimum and walked (sight-seeing)
about 5 miles a day. In fact I wore a pedometer to see how much walking I got in each day--and most days was 5-6 miles,
while having fun! Have a Great cruise!

My husband and I always use the gym on board. It's really nice because you usually have it to yourself!! Right after breakfast we'd go to the gym, get nice and stretched out and burn some calories and then hit the pavement. Anytime we go ashore we always hit the road running. We do fine, don't gain weight. I have a much harder time watching my wieght when I'm home. You'll do fine, just make the most of the experience. We never go on cruises focusing on the food, our focus is on the new adventure.

If you need a cheat sheet... you could prepare a list of foods that you normally eat & list the calories per serving.. so when on the cruise you can use that to make your notebook log entries. Plan to have a healthy breakfast with dense carbs & protein.. that will help you make good choices the rest of the day. Have Fun:)
