I'm working towards losing 2 lbs a week and exercising with hubby. I know men lose faster than women, but I'm working sooo hard and not losing much (in comparison to him!). What am I doing wrong? So frustrating!

It is frustrating, but biologically important. Focus on your success and not your husbands, and be happy for him. You need his support0

my husbands clothes are literally falling off of him (not that im complaining ;})
and ive barely lost a thing
he doesnt even work out and eats ten times what i do
and his starting weight was ridiculously overweight
sometimes i think it just happens that way but dont let it get you down
not only is there a difference in how men and women lose weight, but in how each individual loses as well.0 -

This is your weight loss journey so its: you vs. you and that's it. My fiance' and I were "losing weight" together he got a six pack in about 1 month, me---not so much. But we took pictures weekly, bi-weekly whatever and I compared my progress with my progress...
Men have more muscle than we do, he's naturally going to drop fat faster....remember that slim quick commerical with the cartoons....the chick was all: me and my husband stopped eating bread; I lost 2 pounds and he lost ...(and then his pants fell to the floor) and she goes...awkward
better, faster, stonger--you versus you!

Exactly! They have more muscle mass, and muscle burns fat therefore they lose faster than we do. It sucks-but just be happy for him and concentrate on yourself. Use it as motivation. I am a very competitive person, so I would just make that fuel my workouts to be 3x harder and my eating habits to be 3x better.
Good job! Keep up the good work and don't let it get you down.0 -
I completely understand how you feel! My boyfriend and I started at the beginning of the year to exercise and eat healthy again. He eats double of what I'm eating and still manages to lose weight! I work my butt off and sometimes do a little extra just to lose a lb here and there. I don't let it bother me though because I'm very happy that he is getting healthier. If you want to be competitive, maybe you should measure fitness level rather than lbs lost. I secretly know I can outrun my boyfriend on the treadmill, I just don't tell him haha =P0

Just like everyone else said, just focus on you. Men tend to lose more, and I understand how frustrating it is. My husband's the same way, he'll cut out soda for 2 months and drop like 50lbs..no exercise, no other dieting, just cuts out soda and bam he's fit -.- I have just learned to accept this as one of his faults lol0

Not to be a target here, but can anyone point to a link where studies have shown that men lose
weight faster than women? I know many people have there anecdotes of watching this
happen, but I'd like to read of some studies confirming it, or clearly describing the mechanism.
The reason I ask, on the first several seasons of The Biggest Loser, men won the show. After
a couple season many of the female contestants started saying that on the show "Men lose
faster than women" The for several season women won the show. Nobody really seems
to be saying that on the show much anymore.
Season 3,4,5, there was a lot of this point of view. Then women won seasons 5, 6, and 7.0 -
actually it depends. if you want to lose 2 lbs a week, you can, you just need to maintain a 1000 cal a day calorie deficit. the same goes for men. it is the same exact concept. his metabolism might be higher so he may be allowed to eat more calories per day than you, but that doesn't change the fact that you can still lose 2 lbs a week if you hit your goals.
in reality, because he has a higher metabolism, he requires more calories per day than you do to maintain his body weight, which also probably means he is hungrier than you in general.
however, if he is significantly lighter than you are, you might need more calories per day in order to maintain your body weight, in which case you can eat more than he can, and you have a higher appetite.
it is all variable. just find out how many cals you need a day and stick to it.0
