Today I went over in my protein category by 17g.
What is the harm in going over in the protein category, could someone please explain ?

I am not sure there is an issue...there are so many conflicting views...I just asked my trainer and he said some ppl say how much weight you want to lose is how much protein you should consume...some have a formula based on your weight and projected weight....
Wish I could be more helpful, but I have found that what MFP suggests is not what I actually consume...I eat more protein.0 -
unless you have your protein set to like 190g.... you are totally fine :-D I eat 140-150g/day. As long as it is lean protein and not too full of saturated fats... no worries! :-D0

There is no harm in it at all, if you are going to go over in something protein is the one to go over in. I go over daily but keep my carbs down. You can adjust the amount by lowering your carbs and increasing your protein.0

There is no harm. Many people go over what mfp recommends on protein. Proteins are an essential part of your diet. They help you maintain muscle mass.0

Most articles I've read recommend 1 gram per pound of lean mass, but that is for those who do a lot of weight training. I've also read, that is is supposed to be .7 grams per kilogram of bodyweight for most others. A lot of it depends on your body type, fitness level, and goals.0 -
If you are doing low carb, i think I read that too much protein can be bad for you because its converted to glucose? But honestly, being over by such a small amount wouldn't really hurt, no matter what diet you're doing imo.0

I carb cycle with high protein and moderate carbs 4 days and then a HIGH carb and high protein day on the fifth day. Working well! I am coming to the end of my loss and it has been the hardest yet and this seems to be targeting my fat! Which is nice! :-D But your diet totally depends on your goals, fitness level and activity level- like mentioned above. We are all different- yet very much the same. Which makes it even more complicated0 -
To much protein in your diet is only a concern if you are in renal failure. Protein is hard on the kidneys however, if you are exercising and don't have kidney issues, there is no concern. Make sure that as you increase your protein, you increase your water to help flush it through.
Protein and low carb is actually a good combination for weight loss. I lost about 30 lbs in the course of 30 days just by increasing my protein to over 100 and decreasing my carbs to under 100. Naturally that slowed down a bit but I'll take 30 lbs any time.0
