Hello,
I was a full-time nursing mother until this past week. My baby started taking supplemental formula bottels a few times a day and one at night because I was not enough to fill him. I lost 4+ lbs two weeks ago, 2.4 lbs last week, and this week I was UP 2 lbs!! It made me want to scream since I made a big effort to stay at 1380 cals (which is what I am alloted) and to excercise. So...do you think it is because of the more infrequent feedings (which burns about 500-900 cals a day for a mom) and because of that should I lower my total daily cal's to 1200? I mean, MFP doesn't work in nursing to that original 1380, so that should not have mattered, but it did. I'm not lookin for those same big number necessarily, but I certainly don't want to GAIN!

  • It may be that your body is just adjusting. I wouldn't worry too much yet unless you continue to gain in the next couple weeks.

There are actually entries in the food diary called "breastfeeding" (odd, I know). Choose the one that has the most accurate frequency/amount and add those calories. It could just be that you aren't eating enough.

I wouldn't be too concerned about a gain one week. That WILL happen so prepare yourself for it now and then.

1.) big-ups to plato!!! (it's his term (or maybe artistole's?)- deductive reasoning)

    anyways...

2.) BF works supply and demend... so, if you're feeding him a bottle at night- you're hurting your supply... it's not going to get any better if you keep supplementing

3.) BF burns calories for some but, I swear to you it didn't for me--- try to squeeze in a high impact working out or long walk?....

Oh- and throw away that scale... it doesn't mean anything! Promise. Look at the way your clothes fit, look at you face- you arms... take measurements!
