If you can stand them, I like showtunes--paying attention to the story they are telling distracts me from how much I hate what I'm doing (I'm not one of those people who enjoys exercise itself, just the results, lol).

Umm, ok, don't laugh, but one of my favorite workout songs is "Get Low" by Lil John...

Seriously, I like a bunch of different kinds of music, mostly contemporary country, but they're not great at helping me get pumped while working out, so I turn to R&B, which I rarely listen to otherwise. I don't know what it is about that song, but I think part of it is that I find the lyrics amusing (see Chris Rock's commentary on this song for a good laugh). I also think it's that I would love to dance like an idiot to it, and working out gives me that physical release during it.

And even though I'm not a big fan of her in general, some of Britney Spears's songs (Toxic comes to mind) are also good for working out.

Justin Timberlake has a lot of good stuff for working out, too, but I will admit to finding him very yummy.

    Have fun!

OK, I have thousands of songs on my ipod, with a little bit of everything, mainly punk rock and indie/alternative but my 'Powersong' on Nike+ is 'f*ckin' perfect' by Pink. Her greatest hits album really burns some Ks

I have to agree with this. I like Broadway music, and if I'm doing a long, tedious workout (such as walking/running on the treadmill), I like more recent musicals that tell a story with the songs (as opposed to a lot of older musicals where the songs generally are not necessary to tell the story - a lot of Rodgers and Hammerstein shows come to mind). Ragtime is one of my favorites, and most of it is sung, so the story moves with the music. Andrew Lloyd Webber is also quite good at this. I don't do well reading while working out, so it's my way of getting my mind engrossed in something else (though I prefer R&B, as stated above, for more interesting workouts). A few years ago I got engrossed in some showtunes and ran for 45 minutes straight (my usual was 20-25) without realizing it!
