What should I take the day "off" from?

I usually do the 30DS as my form of exercise and sometimes a tiny bit of extra cardio on the elliptical. This past week with the Shred I switched from 3 pound weights to 5 pound weights. If I'm going to let my body rest from something today should I skip the Shred (my "weight training workout") or skip the elliptical? Or should I really go all out, skip them both, and let my body completely rest?

I would say skip the 30ds, that is more muscle versus cardio which the muscles are what need a day off to help rebuild. As long as you do a short cardio I say you should go ahead and do that still.

listen to your body. You don't have to take a day off from cardio unless you feel like it. Weight training you need to give your body time to recover.

I would ditch the shred for a day, I'm always surprised how much stronger I am next time I do it after a rest day.

Skip both. Muscle growth happens during rest periods. Letting your whole body rest will give you more energy & explosive power when you do resume exercise (ie, the next day). Don't overwork yourself.

Thanks for the input. I ended up doing a short stint on the elliptical a little while ago. Sometimes I feel guilty taking a day off. My body might not be screaming at me but I do know it's important to have rest days.
