Your not mean't to eat these surely are you?

It's telling me I've earned 276 calories, but I burned them so surely shouldn't eat them?

Calorie counting is hard work LOL slimming world was so much simpler!

Ok...for women, the minimum deficit is 1200 cals net/day, men is 1500 cals net/ day.
All you have to do is make sure your net is a minimum of 1200 cals.
If you eat 1200 cals, then burn 400, your deficit is at 800 cals, so you would need to eat that 400 to keep it at 1200. It has been proven in numerous studies that your body CAN, but not always go into starvation mode if you do not get your minimum. Some people hit their starvetion mode after others, but it will happen. Not only can this happen, but you are also depleting your body of the nutrients it needs to stay healthy as well as fight off diseases. When your body goes into starvation mode, instead of digesting and dispelling the food you intake, it stores it because it "thinks" it needs it to stay alive. It's like your body is hoarding what it feels it isn't getting enough of.

    Eat them!
  • I went 3 weeks without eating them and lost not a pound...I then ate them for a week and lost a pound...I've been told on this list that you have to eat them or your metabolism will slow down,....which is the last thing you want for long term healthy weight loss...if you starve yourself you may lose some but it'll come back fast when you start to eat again.

You can eat them! If you want to be sure go to TOOL and click on BMR. This will show you how may cals you are burning if you were sleeping! I bet the BMR is very close the amout suggested for you! Mine was! So anything "extra" that you burn is a bonus!
  • a lot will say you eat them back and there will be those who say they don't. As long as your "net calories' are where they should be then it is up to you.

eat them...think of the car analogy. you wouldn't go on a long car trip on an empty tank just like you shouldn't exercise and re-fuel your body. And exercising helps with muscle definition so that you are toned rather than "skinny-fat." Lifting especially helps since your body burns calories well after your work out is over.

When I first started MFP I was not eating my exercise calories. I thought the same thing as you mentioned about why them when you burn them.... But I was so tired when I didn't eat those calories I was burning. I had no energy in the afternoons and all I wanted to do at 3 or 4 in the afternoon was sleep. I've been eating them now and feel so much better. I aiming for a minimum of 1200 calories daily. Definitely eat them!

Yes!!! Eat them!! Your deficit to lose weight is already built into your calorie allowance. If you don't eat them, yes you will lose weight AT FIRST. Then your body will bring your weight loss to a screeching halt and you will be coming on the message boards bewildered (like SO many people) asking why they are not losing weight. They say "I am exercising so many days a week and eating clean and under my calories, drinking tons of water, etc, blah blah blah, but am not losing!" We come back and say if you don't eat those exercise calories back, your body will not work with you. Hello, plateau! Your body is a machine, it needs fuel to burn those calories. Keep your weight loss at a steady pace of 1-2 pounds per week (eating exercise calories) and you will win the battle! This is a marathon, not a sprint--to get the weight off and keep it off, this is what it takes. The exercise is great though, because you get stronger, and you get to eat more!!! I've been doing this since August and eating calories back. It works!!

Also, make sure you are drinking enough water and getting plenty of rest. These two factors are often overlooked in weight loss. Enough water means half your body weight in ounces. (if you weigh 200 pounds, drink 100 ounces of water) Trust MFP, it really works if you work it properly. Good luck!
