I started last Monday at 265
This morning I weighed 255
I have ate 1200-1500 calories all week and walked about 50 miles this week. I intend to do the same this week but was wondering if this sounds like a good plan, seems to be working for me, or not?
I have read so much about eating back your exercise calories, only losing 2 pounds a week, and starvation mode. I wonder if any of these are things I need to look out for?

If what you are doing is working for you keep it up. You may find that the more weight you lose the harder it will be so you may have to increase your activity at that time. You will lose more at first but that will taper off as your body gets used to what you are doing. Once you have not lost anything for about 3 weeks (if it even does happen) you will want to review your calories and activity levels.
    Way to go!

If this was your first week, a larger number is normal. But if you are losing that much in consecutive weeks, i might start to question it.
  • Keep up the good work

They say that your first 10 pounds are water weight. Monitor it over the next little while and see what happens

Some weeks you will lose more, some you will lose less. Don't expect that because you do the same thing every week, the weight loss will stay the same. Listen to your body. Does it tell you that you are doing ok? Headaches, joint aches, overall not feeling well, or energy and feeling great? That should tell you better than what anyone else on this site can say about whether you should continue with what you are doing.

Wow, congratulations! 10 lbs is fabulous! I have seen a lot of women have super huge success the first week or so. The change to a healthier diet and exercise helps the body get rid of a lot of water weight that they were holding on to. Keep up what you are doing, and just don't be disappointed if the scale doesn't give you another 10 lb drop next week.

As far as eating back your exercise calories, I reccommend it. Find out what works best for you, but MFP already gives you a deficit to lose weight with. Eating back your calories will make sure your body has enough to function with and keep you full of energy and healthy.

    Congrats again!

Ok first of all, what is your daily limit of calories?

Second, the more weight you have to lose the faster it comes off, at least at the beginning.

Personally, I upped my protein, lowered my carbs, drink more water and switch up my workout routine so I don't hit a plateau. I also stay within 200 calories left for my day.

Losing 2 pounds of week is the healthy way to lose weight. I would say you should talk with your dr. just to be on the safe side if you're concerned.
  • I would eat at least 1500 calories...1200 is the bare minimum your body needs to carry out its functions. Its normal to lose alot the first week, especially if the food, water and exercise is dramatically different from what you are used to. You may not lose anything next week or only a couple of pounds. I look at my month overall to make sure I am averaging a healthy weightloss 2-3lbs a week. Mine was 5,3,1,2.5 so far.
