I have been at 1200 calories intake since June and recently I just feel hungry. I have lost a good amount of weight and am now just under 200lbs. I still have 60lbs to lose to make my goal,. My problem is MFP has never upped my calorie intake and I think because I have increased my exercise I should probably be eating more, but I don't want to sacrifice any of the hard work I have already done. So I increased my calorie intake to 1340 calories, its not much but it helps. My question is how long does it take for MFP to increase my calories or at what weight will it increase it using the Recommended settings? Advice and Suggestions needed?

if you make your weekly weight loss goal less, it will give you more cals. i moved mine from 2 lbs a week to 1.5 per week and it boosted me to 1350.0

update your settings/goals to reflect your current activity or exercise level. That should increase your caloric requirements on MFP. I expect that is what you need anyway - more calories. good luck.0

i don't think it does..i have to manually update mine constantly to keep my losses going down..even if i change my weekly goals, it starts me over @ 1200..just keep doing what you are doing..great job on your loss so far, and best of luck :happy:0

try changing your setting for your exercise goal to what your doing now. I don't think it changes just due to inputting more fitness daily, you need to manually change how much your goal is.0

I like using this calculator I still dont put as much as it tell me to since to me its just a tad bit hight but I only subtract about 200 calories or so. Here is the link in case you want to try it. I just raised my calorie intake to be very close to what it states there since Im doing free hand weight training.

I don't think it'll ever increase unless you change your settings yourself. MFP says that it will recalculate your goal every ten pounds you lose, but even if you "okay" it, you still have to go to settings and resubmit the form. Generally, it decreases in calories for every ten pounds you lose until you get to 1200.
But, yeah, MFP will never increase your calories unless you either change your settings from 2 to 1 1/2 to 1 to 1/2 pounds a week or you enter your own calorie amount with the custom feature.
It's a good thing that you've upped your calories though. It won't ruin your efforts. It'll probably help.

MFP will never increase your daily calorie intake --- in anything, it lowers them (but since you are already at 1200 calories, it won't). Since at lower weights, your body needs less to function efficiency.
Do you enter your exercise daily? When you do this, MFP ups your calories for that day by what you worked off. But, your baseline calories stay the same for days you don't work out. I highly suggest you start entering your workout calories since this is a base believe of MFP that not only can you, but you SHOULD be eating these calories back!
Great job so far - keep it up!!!0 -
Only when you manually adjust it will it change. Right now I have my settings at 1.5 lbs/lost a week...and it gives me 1320 a day. You can still easily see a loss at 1400-1500 cal a day. If you need to lose weight a little more slowly, just so you feel satisfied I say try that for a while. There is no sense in depriving yourself 200-300 cal a day if you feel like you *need* those extra cal. You can always switch back to 1200 if you want to. It's better to feel comfortable and stay on track then to feel super deprived the whole time. Also....keep in mind once you start maintaning you will gain back like 1,000 calories a day. So you'll probably get like 2,200 or something a day.0

Try to calculate your calorie needs. I just found this site in one of the topic. Pretty good

Actually, it's just the opposite, putting your goal in does nothing in respect to changing your calories. It only changes when you enter your exercise in on that day.0 -
I don't think that setting your workout plan in the settings page actually gives you any more calories. You should be adding each workout you do on a daily basis. That's when MFP will allot you more calories for the day.
Actually, as you lose weight your daily caloric "budget" will get smaller as your body shouldn't need as much food to sustain itself. if you're working out more make sure to log it so you don't crash mid day.0 -
Protein and fiber will help you stay fuller longer. Try to eat tuna on toast with a tiny amount of mayo..(lite) and also, a protein drink like synthesix with a banana in the morning!! That usually keeps me full a while. English muffins with a scrambled egg and a slice of cheese is also good protein and filling! Hope it helps!0

Well, don't put all the onus on the computer program ... You are responsible for how you do this! So, let's take a look at a few factors and go from there ... Fact: approximately 500 calorie deficit every day for seven days equals approximately 1 pound of weight loss.
So, how do you determine your calorie deficit? First go to your goals page and look at the right hand box on the top, it says "calories burned from normal daily activity" If you have it set to sedentary, it will say something near the 1800 - 2000 range.
Mine is 1850 at 5'6" and 175 pounds.... Then think about how many calories you are burning that day. (Example 300 for swimming a half hour (made up figure)) Add that to your daily burn: (1850 + 300 = 2150). So I need to eat NO MORE than 1650 calories for that day to keep the 500 calorie deficit and lose at the one pound per week pace. (If I wanted to lose 1.5 pounds per week, I would subtract 750) and if I wanted to lose about two pounds per week (then I would subtract 1000 calories) BUT that would put me below 1200 calories for the day, which I try to avoid because I want to feel better at the end of the day. So I give myself the window of 1200 to 1650 calories for that day ... and generally try to err on the side of the 750 deficit area (around 1400 calories).
A lot of people will say don't eat back your calories, but you are already sitting at the low end of calorie intake and appear to be working out and hitting a plateau. Upping your calories for a little while when it seems that is what your body is asking for doesn't seem to be a drastic idea (as long as it is not a drastic up in the caloric intake) AND you are getting the appropriate amounts of water. Sometimes we think we are hungry because we forgot what thirsty actually feels like (they are so close in the way our body responds).
Anyway, I hope that you find the mix that works for you and know you have the support here!

One thing that others have not addressed is looking at the types of foods you are eating. Are they whole foods or are they "empty" calories. The more whole grains, proteins, fruits and vegetables you consume, the more satisfied you will be. Fiber helps, too!0

You need to input your calories burned in the exercise portion of your diary. MFP will then increase your daily calories.0
