HRM n00b - types?

I'm considering buying a HRM and have looked online at Amazon.com and even the Polar website. What I can't figure out is if HRMs are only in watch form? I don't want to wear a watch - I see chest straps but I think those are only transmitters to the corresponding watch?

I'd love to have something that is kind of hidden like a chest strap... help?
