Holy Moly!!!!....I didn't walk further or longer but I added 1 minute "sprints" into my walk this morning...walking 4.5 mph for one minute each 1/4 mile. I could feel my heart rate coming up during those. I haven't been able to get a HRM yet but I think that's going to help me a lot. What's your opinion and experience with something like this? (I don't run as my knees and hip won't bear that pressure.)

The only kind of cardio I do PERIOD is intervals (same as you, walking/sprinting/repeat). I think it is the most effective form of cardiovascular training without the long boring sessions. Keep it up!
  • with some of the Leslie Sansone walk away the pounds DVD's she also does sprint intervals where you do so much walking, then you do some short jogging in place and go back to walking. We have now incorporated that type of movement in whatever we are doing; same on the elliptical - we will keep a steady pace and then try to do a minute where we just kick out as hard as we can and then slow back down so the heart rate slows down some

I love it as well! I get a great cardio burn in without hours at the gym! My fat loss really kicked into gear when I started intervals and heavy weight lifting!

Bringing your heart rate up and down in my opinion is great. Helps build endurance and speed. There is a new study that it can induce a heart attack but I have never seen that in my life. That's how I trained myself to run and never had a problem.
