*Rant* *Rant* *Rant* Foods of the "Bar" Variety!

I'd like to make snack bars. Homemade protein bars or fake Larabars or the like. But EVERY recipe I find has some ingredient that almost NOBODY has in their pantry. It's like:
Rolled Oats (fine, got that)
Peanut Butter (that's on the shelf)
Baking Cocoa (not a problem)
Wheat Germ (starting to get a bit difficult, but I can probably sub with wheat bran, right?)
Almond Milk (uh, that's not a regular around here)
Cashews (again, high cal nuts aren't usually sitting around in the pantry)
Chopped/Dried Fruits of any variety (we stick to fresh as often as possible)
So, are there any recipes with stuff that most normal people keep on hand? :-/

sometimes buying the extras (especially when the leftovers don't go bad quickly) will save money in the long run.0

With the fruits you can just boil them down, use regular milk, and buying nuts doesnt seem like that out of the ordinary thing to buy, but you dont need to use it. try a small bit of pb to thicken things up. Experiment on your own and see what you find. Necessity is the mother of invention!0

Have a look at some of these options if your looking for a high protein snack. I've made the peanut butter balls with just the oats, peanut butter and honey and they were great!
Have also made cookies using 1 egg white, 2 Tbs oats, 1Tb honey, 1Tb peanut butter - just mix together all ingredients (add more oats if too liquid), spoon out onto a baking tray and bake at about 180 for 8-9 mins. makes about 6 depending on how generous you are!0 -

I'm busting out the food processor tonight and experimenting. Mixing carob, oats, peanut butter and wheat bran just HAS to form something. :-D0
