Ok, hoping that someone can help me. I purchased a heart rate monitor about a month ago and I am having an issue with the reading. I bought the one that comes with a chest strap thinking that this would give me a more accurate reading. I am a big girl so I am wondering if that has anything to do with it. I have tried wearing the strap both at the bra line (under the breast) as well as on my upper chest. My readings while working out can be anywhere from 55 bpm to 115 which I know can't be right since my resting heart rate averages out to about 86 bpm. If anyone has experienced issues like this, would really like to hear how you addressed them. thanks all for reading this post.

Which model did you get? Do you wet the straps sensors before you begin? Have you checked that the transmitter is secure to the sensor?

If you have the strap with the sensors, make sure that you wet them prior to putting on the strap. The sensors need to have a little moisture on them to get an accurate reading. The only other thing I would suggest is changing the battery, but it doesn't seem that your monitor is old enough to warrant that.

I"m a big girl too. Sounds like the chest strap may not be making contact with your chest continuously.

Check that when you exercise it's not rolling up.
Check that your wetting the senors enough prior to putting it on.

Try wearing it when you are not working out, to make sure you can fiddle with it when you get a weird reading. I wore mine at home for the first day or two to check out how big the strap needed to be, and how it moved when I moved.

    Good luck!

I'm on board with this. My chest strap and my sports bra fight sometimes and the bra wins. Mine ranges from 40 at rest to 170 in full cardio, so it's a big swing...
