Flabby Arms and Rowing Machine

I have very flabby arms. It's ridiculous. They're probably the thing I hate MOST about being overweight. I just wish I had pretty arms... Anyways. I was wondering if using a rowing machine would be a good way to burn calories and work my arms. I don't like lifting weights because I feel like I'm wasting my time when I should be doing cardio. I know there's been studies out there that say cardio and strength together make for the best workout, but I just can't seem to convince myself.

So enough rambling. Any advice on rowing for combined calorie burn and arm workouts?

I'm sure it would be good for you. Using the handles on elliptical machines is a good start as well.

Strength training is not a waste of time, by the way. The more you build your muscles, the more calories you will burn when you are at rest.
  • I dont know any advice or science behind it, but I use it when I go to the gym and like it. I feel like it is a whole body workout and can feel it in my arms. But I also try to do some lifting and trying to do push ups and other strength activities along with it. It has to be a good option.

If you haven't already heard, you can't spot reduce fat. To "melt" fat you must do all of the following:

    Eat CLEAN

    Drink lots of water.

Cardio is good, but steady state cardio won't get you the fastest results. You need Metabolic Resistance Training or High Intensity Interval Training.

    Lastly,

    LIFT HEAVY WEIGHTS.

Get your hands on and read the book "The New Rules of Weight Lifting for Women" - by Lou Schuler (check out reviews on Amazon.com) It WILL convince you.

Lift like a man, look like a goddess!

    Good luck!

Edited to add that if you do ALL of these things CONSISTENTLY - you WILL have nice arms - nicer than most! Heck yeah!!!!
  • @WifeMomDVM is right, you cannot target fat areas specifically. Have you ever tried kickboxing or a boxing class? The combination of cardio and impact on the pads is great for fat burning and stress relief :)

spot reducing no, but you can firm the muscle underneath.
Google arm exercises, and lift heavy :)

I use a rowing machine a couple times a week, and I feel like it's a good combination of cardio and toning. I put it on the highest resistance level so I'm really having to work. My arms / chest / back / sides seem to be benefitting from it. I look a lot more toned now.

Thanks for the feedback! (late response) I realize spot reducing is impossible, but I know that when I use a rower I do feel it in my arms. I was just wondering if I would actually get a good all over workout from it.

I guess if I HAVE to lift weights I'll suck it up and do it... :( Lol I'll just have to keep looking at those wiggly arms and think about them not being that way.
