WHAT?!?! (Post Rants.)
My co-worker just told me that I exercise too much.
WHAT?!?!
How can I exercise too much?
Yeah, I like to workout at work.
Lunges, calisthetics, weights, whatever.
At least I'm doing something with all our free time.
And my friends have been calling me a calorie-counting freak.
Are they just made because I'm actually losing the weight they wish they were losing?
What have people been saying or doing that has been frustrating you since you started dieting?

Some people treat me similar to this. they know i workout a lot and watch what i eat etc and i am healthy. they just usually call me muscles or something like that..nothing insulting.
i think, like anything in this world..people often feel intimitated or threatened by those of us who dont live in the 'norm' of society..which is of course overweight fast food eaters.. i get it more for being a vegetarian. i all the time have people commenting on how they'd never give up meat, or make neanderthal grunting noises when talking about never give up meat etc. and all i do is mention i'm vegetarian when asked if i'd like some food or something. i dont know..as if me being in shape and vegetarian is going to affect their lives some how.0 -
All of the above! Plus there's that whole 'friendly saboteur' thing where they buy me chocolate and cakes and get offended when I give them away or politely refuse!
I'm working on just ignoring it! I've never been in such a good shape and i'm working so hard to make this a healthy lifestyle change so if that makes me a calorie and exercise freak then so be it! I know which side of the fence i'd like to be on!0 -
He's a hater. Ignore him and do you. If you excercise 4-6 days a week and have 1 day off a week at least, then you dont excercise too much.0

I've had people telling me to cut things out of my diet all together and they get angry when i say no, i don't want to crave the food and binge on it cos i cut it out or gain weight when i reintroduce those foods, so i still have my odd bar of chocolate now and again I know how hard I need to work to burn it off again. I want to lose my weight the healthiest way I can with the most likely success of keeping it off :0)
I think it's great that you enjoy working out and that you use free time at work to fit in workouts. As for calorie counting, you're just being careful about the fuel for your body and there is nothing wrong with that.0 -
I don't think it's bad that I'm trying to find little ways to exercise at work.
I'm not logging them, because they're not that big of a deal.
But it makes me feel better about sitting at a desk for 12 hours a day.
Besides, the vast majority of the people that work here are overweight,
so if I want to be different, obviously I have to do somethign different.
Which is getting active, and eating better.
People here are CONSTANTLY drinking soda, and eating candy at their desks.
NO WONDER YOU'RE GAINING WEIGHT, PEOPLE!
Ugh.0 -
I get mad when I tell someone that I completely cut out soda and candy/chocolate,
and then they criticize me and say things like "oh, you'll binge, you'll miss it," blah, blah blah.
Or try to buy it for me, or whatever.
I don't NEED it.
I do just fine without it!
Besides, it's all mental anyway.
Your body isn't really craving a reese's.
Your mind is.
And as soon as you can overcome that, you don't have to worry about binging.
I'm totally cool with the fact that I will NEVER have another Mountain Dew or Reese's in my life.
I don't want it anymore.
It sounds gross.
And that makes me happy.
I'm not saying that my choices are for everyone, obviously.
But this is what's working for me.0 -
Since I've been a yo-yo dieter for years, I've encountered several people who will talk my ear off when the weight is coming off, and totally ignore me when the weight is coming back on...
I'm very lucky to have not really run into anyone so far who has had anything negative or obnoxious to say. My friends and the majority of my family have been very supportive.
I also think I'm at a stage in my life where it's really all about me, and if a person is negative, I push the "ignore button" and continue on with my mission.0 -

I am a vegetarian and get this a lot as well. One person is always asking me why i am a vegetarian and when i explain my reasons she says that is rubbish. Do not ask if you do not want to hear my answer.0 -
once a friend told me when will i stop being a "kill joy" about eating hahaha
well i guess that's just a stupid thorn on the way to weight loss success! don't sweat on it0 -
My grandfather will act as if I should be losing weight faster and then offer me pizza saying "A little pizza won't hurt." Yeah.....0

I only ever got crap because I would do 4-5 miles in the morning, then be a zombie at work. I couldn't seem to eat enough to stay awake and had been an over achiever until I decided to get back in shape.
Otherwise I instead now get crap from other healthy livers- I don't work out hard enough, omg you tasted jacks burger you're supposed to be veg, four ounces of organic soda is going to make you FAT!!!
It seems "mainstream" people are more interested in my lifestyle and may give some good natured ribbing, whereas rather than support from other veg or from runners etc I just feel judged. If my goals aren't the same as theirs, I'm not doing enough, despite any knowledge of my medical status, the fact I'm not supposed to cut calories etc.
I can only ignore themOddly I find people with ~100 lbs to lose to be pretty nice and supportive, though! Usually they're excited about whatever changes they are making and aren't judging others for not doing enough.

I have to admit, I don't have that issue where I work. Many people here are not avid dieters by any means, but they know that being healthy is important and they support me. They also sometimes ask for advise for types of food to eat and such, which makes me happy

Not me, but a friend lost 6.5 stone. People were mostly complementary but some were damn rude. The words "Uggh, you look disgusting" were said to her in front of me! Don't you just love working with people?
She was barely under 11 stone so not that tiny that it needed an intervention.
I think people are just jealous that they haven't got the willpower you have.
This friend decided to eat more to shut people up. Put on 1/2 stone and hated it! She then had to work twice as hard to get it back off again...0 -

I have gotten multiple talks from family members about my 'obsessive behavior' and 'unhealthy habits.' Where were those family members when I was starving myself and walking 10 miles a day as well as hitting the gym for 2 hrs and playing sports? They didn't seem so concerned then. No matter how hard I try to explain that I am doing this in a healthy way now, and am actually tracking calories to make sure that I eat ENOUGH of the RIGHT foods to support my body as I build muscle, they just don't seem to get it. My husband has even hidden my measuring cups and tablespoons before. But he is slowly coming around as he starts to see the results of my hard work. He even apologized last night for getting on my case about working out too much, and agreed to start watching the kids again so I can go to the gym twice a week.
Don't let them get to you. You are doing so well, and trying so hard to approach this in a healthy way. Keep up all your great work and they will have to shut up once they see all the good that it is doing you. And even if they don't, they are just jealous because they wish they had half of the strength of will that you do to make the choices and changes that you are making in your life. ((HUGS))0 -
