I had breast cancer this last year and went through chemotherapy, which really did a number on my joints. I ran the Susan Komen race for the cure last week and have found that I love running! I don't want to quit, but my ankles are protesting! My oncologist said to take glucosamine, but to make sure it is a good brand. She didn't have any recommendations though. I knew where to ask! Could you all tell me which brand has worked best for you?
Thanks!!

Glucosamine has been proven recently to have absolutely no benefits. It's expensive and the pills are enormous, so I wouldn't bother with it.

MSM, on the other hand, is a natural anti-inflammatory that does provide relief from joint pain. (It took me 3 years to get my mother to try it for her severe osteoarthritis, but once she did she was quite happy with it and will never allow herself to run out!)

PSGAGs are also proven to be beneficial. For humans, you usually see this offered in the form of Perna Mussels/Green Lipped Mussels or Ketoprophen. (For animals it is also available by injection, brand name Adequan in the US.)

Omega 3s also seem to help with joint health and pain.

ASUs don't have much research behind them yet but appear to be promising.

    Got to agree with Atlantique.

Bromelain is something that I have found quite effective for joint inflammation in the past. It's basically pineapple extract. Seems to work really well and also aids in digestion

I remember hearing about this. I think it was more that they couldn't prove it did have benefits. Because even if its placebo effect, I know people who found relief from arthritis while using it.
The good thing about that news is, you can find these supps on sale quite often now.

MSM seems to help me the most. And it's fairly inexpensive.
I also take fish oil for omega 3s. I think I'll always take fish oil. Really great stuff.

I notice a difference when using Glucosamine Sulfate. I also take Omega 3-6-9 as fo late. I run a lot and row so my joints were taking a real hit. Both brands are NOW and rather cheap compared to most supps @ GNC and what not.
