Taichi? Good for joint pains?

I heard that it's good for helping relieve joint pain, can anyone confirm this, and if so, know any groups I might be able to join up to give it a try? I've had joint pains and problems since high school (maybe longer) and my doctor is completely useless it seems. I'm in Hollywood, Fl.

my dad, a doctor, said i should just loose weight and my joint pain will go away
I went to a physical therapist cause i really messed up my shoulders, he told me that I need to strengthen the muscles around the joint to stabilize it so it wont hurt anymore
hope this helps, didn't really answer the question, sorry i don't know anything about taichi0 -
I'm pretty sure it's not all that much to do with my weight, since I had this before when I was down to 160 lbs. and it's various parts of my body, such as my shoulder and neck, wrist, etc.0
