Mom of 5 looking for some willpower....

Hello all! I've never in my life tracked calories or anything of the sort. I've always found it incredibly tedious and and logically I know when I'm eating more than I should, but over the winter months that hasn't seemed to stop me so I thought I would try something new. I work better when I have good guidelines and I was very pleased with how easy this website makes it.
I'm a mom to 5, ages 4 - 14 and want to work hard to look like a mom. I've keep up well with it since my early 20s (I was about 50lbs overweight from 18-22) but now I am starting to notice the weight doesn't come off as easy and my willpower when it comes to eating in bed while watching tv is a habit I NEED to break.
I'm pretty good about making sure I get to the gym 3-4 days a week and I try to stay off my *kitten* at home, but I do have a desk job that makes my booty spread battle a bit more difficult.
I'm looking forward to seeing the progress!

Welcome! It's not as easy to get rid and keep it off, especially after kids. (I have 6)
Good luck to you! :flowerforyou:0 -
is there a way to take the tv out of the bedroom and break the habit or even just unplug it or put it on a timer and then as it goes off you are snapped back aware and cut the snackin?
any chance you are snacking healthy on pepper strips and celery with hummus then I would say it's less of a worry.
any chance youn can pop some gum in instead of the snacks or do some exercises in front of the tv instead? something with resistance leg bands or light free weights to kkeep busy.
or do you have a hobby that involves your hands, sewing knitting, latch hook, coloring, drawing, playing cards with your hubby. How about giving yourself a manicure and then you won't be able to snack with wet nails.0 -
I am a mother of 5 as well. Oldest is 11 and my youngest is 4 so believe me I know how it can be! Try and surround yourself with positive people who have similar goals in mind and you will do great!!0

You are doing great for all you have on your plate (literally & figuratively)! I'm a mom a 4 kids ages 13 - 5 and I know it's difficult. Just stay focused on your motivation. You--and your family--are worth it!0

I too have a desk job. I have worked behind a desk for over 12 years. I have two children.
The more you log and keep up with your calories, the less time it will take. It becomes second nature!
Don't worry you can do this!
Please feel free to add me as a friend.....

I love the suggestions to keep my hands busy! I was trying to teach myself to crochet, maybe I will get back into that. I'm definitely going to get back at it, my husband says he'll join in next week. I'm holding him to that. It took Herculean willpower not to eat off his plate when he brought chips and cheese to bed last night to watch the hockey game.0

Welcome to the site! I'm a mom of 3 although sometimes it seems like 'double the trouble', 2-10, terribly energetic kids but they are the best rewards life can give! I understand the part about needing will power. Before I came to MFP, my favorite thing was to eat while watching TV. I believe that you will do great here. I know for sure that you will gain many friends who will encourage you and support you on your journey. I actually tried to keep a food diary(on paper) long before I found this site and was quite unsuccessful because first I didn't know what I was doing as far as how many calories I actually needed. This site will give you much information and put everything in perspective for you much like it did for me. You're gonna love being here and if you stick with it you can definitely do it! I wish you much success on your journey!0
