Hi,
Is it possible to carry over calories to another day? For example I intend on saving 200 calories today but know I am going out for dinner with friends on Saturday. Can I save my left over calories for Saturday? Is is possbible to track this on the website?
Thanks
G

I dont thik it works this way, if you want extra calories saturday make up for it in exercise. Its fairly easy to burn 200 calories

Nope, your internal body clock and engine that burns stuff is 24 hours.
  • I've always heard from dietitians that each day is a new day and that the calories from yesterday cannot be carried over to today, and that if you go over the calories one day eating less the next day does not help. =( wish we could....

I don't think you can carry your extra calories to another day. Like PP said, do a little extra exercise that day to help off set the extra calories.

If I know that I am most likely to go over on my calories one day I try to be extra vigilant on the surrounding days. That way you dinner out wont have a huge impact.

Enjoy your meal out...we all deserve that once in while...just make smart choices and you will be fine.

I would typically try to gain those calories in exercise too, but I have deficited one day, to go over another day, just not more than a day or two,in advance. I dont think that more than a few days would make much difference, besides, one day going over is not going to undue everything, unless it will change your "power" to say no the next day. Whatever you do, dont stress over it, that could end up being the enemy and not the few extra calories.

I think you could "carry them over" from one day to the next since your body doesn't recognize time in an hourly/calendar way. I don't think it would be good to try to save calories for several days away. If you don't eat the necessary calories for several days your body may go into starvation mode, and then all of those extra calories that you eat Saturday will immediately be stored in your body rather than used for fuel. I don't think you can really stockpile calories for more than 2 days or so, and I say this thinking about the zigzag method where you eat 20% less than your needed calories for 2 days and then eat maintenance for 1 day.

    I agree with this post.
I have often saved calories, but only a hundred or so a day (so I don't end up in starvation mode) within the days surrounding the event, and it has never really impacted my weight loss. Good luck!

I've seen a lot of people on here say that it's your overall weekly calories that really matter. I don't think you can really technically "carry over" calories from one day to the next, but as long as your under for the week, you're not doing too badly. At least, that's the impression that I've gotten from other posts.

Aren't we just trying to burn 3500 calories to lose 1 lbs?
If you east 200 less one day, then eat 200 more the next day, I would think as long as you're deficit is 3500 in the alloted time you give yourself, it would be okay.

    Math is math, right?

    Hi,
Is it possible to carry over calories to another day?

Is your body on a 24 hour timer that resets at midnight? No.
Do a lot of people calculate their calories on a weekly basis? Yes.
Is is possbible to track this on the website?

Only by manually adding the days together. Or by clicking on "View Full Report" at the bottom of your diary and reset the date range to the week in question (only good for viewing purposes).
