Tracy Anderson Method

So I recently found out about this 90 exercise schedule created by Tracy Anderson. I read her website and it seems pretty legit. She also has 4 different exercise sets based on where you gain weight (hips, waist, butt or all over). I'm really wanting to try it but I'd like to hear some feedback from someone who has done it or is doing it now.
Thanks so much!

I'd love to see the responses you get as well... I've never heard of it!0

If you want to read more about it her website is: tracyandersonmethod.com0

I think her exercise programs are pretty good, but DO NOT take any nutrition advice from her!0
-
how come?0
-
how come?
Her diet plan is basically a starvation diet.0 -
She recommends 1.5 hours of exercise a day and 700 calories a day! She also tells women not to lift over 3 pounds! :huh:0
-
wow.. I understand the exercise part fine... But 700 calories a day? No thanks. definitely not healthy.0

Heyy I am on Day 7 of metamorphosis and I am an OMNI centric person. I love the workouts. The first is dance cardio which is crazy non stop dancing around for a half hour, the moves are easy but i run out of stamina! the muscular structure workouts are good, they are a half hour of arm, legs and abs. Yes you only use three pounds but trust me, you don't want anymore weight then that! and there is a lot of old school mat work, it makes your legs and butt burn! They are hard but already i am already seeing results. 4 lbs in 7 days and that's with being sick and going of the diet for 2 of them. The diet plan is sound in theory, but its true the calorie count is very low. The first week is all juices and puree's so in order to boost calorie count i have simply increased the portion of my puree's until I hit 1200 calories which is good for me. Week 2 you get to go back to real food, but again the calorie count is low so i just added more of what's on the list until i hit 1200 calories. I switched to week 2 today because I simply hated the juice week But if you do get this definitely try the diet just add more of what is on the lists.0

Holy crap!!! I am about to start day 2... I'm so dang sore after yesterday. holy crap! My calves and glutes are so sore I don't know how I'm going to do it today. just grin and bear it I guess. I do love the dance cardio. and the Mat work. I don't have 3 pound weights at the moment so i just use to full bottles of water (not close to 3 pounds i know but its all I got for now).
this is insane! she doesn't even struggle with any of the leg work. I can barely do one. I can't wait to see how I look in 10 days, how I've changed.0 -
I remember Tracy Anderson from a few years ago when she & Madonna were doing a treadmill workout that included skipping. It was all over the internet and there were lots of opinions about it. I include skipping in my run/walk program and love it. I had also seen info about her on Gwenneth Paltrow's blog. I ordered her 2008 Mat Method workout from QVC (best price I could find). I love it, it is unlike any workout I've ever done. It is hard as he**. She relies on lots of reps then adjust position a little bit and lots more reps.
She promises an improvement in the batwings. Lots and lots of tricep kickbacks haven't done a thing for the batwings. I have improved my cardio fitness, I am stronger, now I'm ready to look better! ;->
I just started the workout this week and plan to give it a month to see if I get a benefit from her method. I'd love to know how you all benefit from the new Metamorphasis workouts.0 -
I personally don't like her DVDs that much. The exercises are okay but I don't have as much fun with it. And I don't feel she's a strong motivator to be honest. I need someone tougher and meaner to get me moving.
That said, I do like the abs section of the Mat Workout though.0 -
I forgot to mention earlier that the things about the Mat Method DVD that aggravate some people really tickle me. If you're not looking at Tracy you are going to get lost because the verbal cues are few to none. Sometimes I close my eyes thinking that will help me stick with it and when I open my eyes she has moved on to a different movement, without saying a word! She doesn't tell you how many reps you'll be doing or count reps. Once in a while she'll say "5 more" or something like that, but not consistently.
Basically, she doesn't follow any of the "rules" of workout videos and I get a real kick out of it.0 -
yeah the verbal cues do suck. I make sure to watch the video once through jst to count the reps, but the results are amazing. I've gone down a size already!0

I've been reading a whole bunch of reviews for Tracy Anderson Method. I'm trying to decide if her metamorphosis dvd is worth the 90 dollars I do like the fact that you can get it according to your body. But, will getting her mat workout for 30 work just as well? I personally like the idea of her better than Jillian cause hers is suppose to give u a nice shape without all the muscle.... I think lots of muscle on a woman is unflattering, but that's me.0

Your local library system might be a good way try one of her workouts. I bought the Mat Method, but reserved everything the library had of hers. Just today I picked up the Post-Pregnancy Workout. I'm not post partum by any stretch of the imagination, but I wanted to see what she does about streched out stomachs.
I'm giving the Mat Method a month. If it works to "draw the skin to the muscle" then I'll spring for the metamorphasis.0 -
Hi! I am currently doing Tracy Anderson's "Metamorphosis - Hipcentric" Program and I LOVE IT! I am on day 4 or the first week - you work out 6 days in a row, one hour a day, take a rest day, do the same workout until you have done it for a total of 10 days, then move on to the next week's workout....again, all with 6 days in a row followed by a rest day....follow her eating plan (which I've had to modify a bit due to not having enough time to prep everything but am sticking pretty well to it), and already, in 4 days, I am down 6 pounds!! I know most of this is water weight but who cares?! I am getting results, the workouts are KILLER (my calves are still killing but feel a bit better after my yoga class last night which was also quite painful).
She targets all of the small muscles that make the difference and boy, can I feel it. My abs are sore (but tight!), my butt is sore but feels good and my hips too.....I can feel it all over. I like her philosophy of only using 3 lb. weights....I have never liked using weights heavier than that and when I was working with a personal trainer that I adored, I always hated when she would have me using a 10+lb. free weight or a 26lb. kettlebell!
I think if you're curious, give it a shot! It does take quite a bit of commitment but there is also an online community via her website that you gain access to once you order her DVD's.......I am going to have to go with "I love it!" on this one!0 -

I just read an interview that Jennifer Lopez gave and she said that she used Tracy Anderson to get in shape for her new video. I was looking at it on her website too. I have so many videos and have a hard time dropping another $100.0
-
QVC sells her Mat Method workout for under $25. I think it's a good introduction to what she's all about. You can also find her on YouTube, Gwynethe Paltrow's blog, or her own website. Google her and you'll get an idea if you want to see more.0

I've been doing her omni metamorphosis series since early March and before that was doing her mat DVD along with her dance cardio. I love what it has done for my body!!
I went from a size 30 jeans back into my old size 27! So it really does work if you stick with it:)0 -
how does anyone log her mat dvd on MFP??0
-
I used a heart rate moniter to log it, I just created it as a new cardio exercise. If I remember correctly I think it burned 430ish calories for me after the entire workout:)0
-
Can't wait to get my heart rate monitor so I know exactly how much I'm burning! I also pulled out my old "dance pants" (they are these long-ish shorts made out of plastic material) and they turn up the heat and make me sweat more which rocks!!!
Completed day 3 of level 2 this morning of Hipcentric and am down a total of 12 pounds so far!!!0 -
Graeme Thomas is a Canadian health and fitness expert whom I respect a lot. Please check out what he has to say about Tracy Anderson in this article:
http://graemethomasonline.com/skinny-fat-not-just-hollywoods-problem/
Apparently, he doesn't think too highly of her. I wouldn't drop 10 bucks on any of her videos, much less 100.0 -
I think the main problem that a lot of people have with her method is her "diet plan"....which is hardly a diet that anyone can sustain! I agree that if people follow her diet for a long time, then yes, they will end up skinny fat and losing a lot of muscle and probably like Gwenyth with ostepenia....good lord, and if they are working out for two hours a day, then yes, that is a little excessive:)
As far as just doing her workouts....I hardly think that anyone will end up with no muscle tone aka skinny fat. Yes, its not a huge amount of muscle as say someone who is lifting heavier weights, but I don't think that that is the look that people who are doing her method are after. They want the type of body she claims to make....a dancers body. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting a body like Jackie Warner or woman's fitness competitors, but everyone has their own goal of how they want their body to look.
I honestly was a huge skeptic before doing the program, previously having done p90x and lifting heavy weights and not liking how big my arms and stomach got (and yes, it was definitely muscle underneath the fat, maybe I would have liked how it looked more if my body fat % wasn't so high). But since doing her method my body fat went from 23% down to 19%, and people have actually noticed that my arms look great and for the first time ever, I have abs!
and for other trainers getting upset about her "no more than 3 pound rule".....her arm workouts yield fabulous results and are WAY HARDER than people would think just be hearing her stupid 3 pound rule!
....lol guess my little rant is over......didn't mean to offend or argue the other link (because Graeme Thomas definitely has great points) but my I just got in an argument with my friend (who is very unhappy with her weight, having close to 100 pounds to lose), first telling me how great my stomach looked, then proceeding to tell me that Tracy Anderson has no idea what she is talking about........
ok now my rant is over:)0 -
Hey everyone, I started doing the tracy anderson mat workout about 3 weeks ago, but only every other day for 3 days a week and running (get running app) on the alternative days. I've always thought I had pretty strong legs, playing basketball and netball all my life but for some reason the first 20 or so minutes of the workout absolutely killed me. It is pretty repetitive and its annoying that she doesn't give too many cues as to when she's changing positions etc so you cant really get into it and do your own thing, but I have to say it does work in terms of really toning, my problem areas are my tummy and waist. I do love what its done but it sure is boring as hell so i'd say break it up with someone else. Oh and I didn't follow her 'diet' plan.0

Hey - no worries! If her routine works for you, then more the better. I just get concerned when people blindly follow some "celebrity" diet or fitness plan without really checking it out first. To each his own! Best of luck to you!0 -
I'm doing the hipcentric video only, not the dance cardio (I do other cardio). I don't know what to put for calorie burn. Anybody have any ideas?0

Tracy isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I like what I have seen so far. I have done the Mat Method workout and the Post-pregnancy workout (even though I've never had a baby) and I like both of them. I doubt that the workout plan caused Gwyneth Paltrow's Osteopenia. The diet may have if she sustained it over a long term. Doesn't anyone but me remember when all the workout gurus were saying light weights many reps? She's certainly not the first person to suggest this. She wants you to be able to lift more than 3 pounds in your everyday life for crying out loud, but not to "weight lift" more than 3 pounds.
She may be full of hooey, but every review I have read about her workouts by women who have actually done them is positive. Sure she gives lousy to zero cues and you have to watch her to see what to do, BUT she doesn't tell corny jokes that get so old after the first week. I like her "less talk more work" ethic. I also like her attention to other muscles. I mean, if you do some workouts you'll think the only arm muscles are triceps and biceps. Apparently there are others! Although, to be frank, Tracy doesn't actually name the other muscles other than to call them "accessory muscles".
I have watched P90X infomercials for years and thought that's what I wanted. I bought Supreme 90Day and I like the workout, but I find that I don't want to look like the women in the videos. I want to be fit, but not cut like that. I'm thinking Tracy Anderson may be the way to get there.0 -
