New to Running and Jogging....

So, I've elected to start jogging on Monday. I used to run a lot when I was in school, PRIMARY just... I was ever so good, not that you'd think it now but even these days I am still pretty swift when running for a bus. I always liked running, I like that gliding effect you get when you run really fast so I thought jogging would be a really great way to get in shape and do loads of cardio and stuff.
I'm a walker but I'd like to eventually be a RUNNER and as I'll be in London this time next year, I'd also like to do the Race for Life race... http://www.raceforlife.org/
I obviously don't want to start running frantically through the streets at a million miles an hour only to drop dead of cardiac arrest ten minutes later and I found a plan that will ease me in nicely and help me build my speed up as the weeks go on.
It's a four week plan but depending on how the first week goes, I might extend it to eight weeks and repeat each week twice. But you walk for two minutes say then gently run for one minute and you do that for an hour a day building up your speed and stamina every time, also during that hour you do 15 or 20 minutes where you change around the minutes of walking and running until you are able to walk briskly for 20 minutes then run fast for 20 minutes without stopping!
I'm really looking forward to it and on Friday I'm going out to purr-chase all the equipment I need (which is really just a good sports bra because I have HUGE boobs which WILL knock me out) BUT I was wondering if, as a beginner to running is there anything I should or look out for, really just some advice on it.
Thanks guys, I know this might seem like a pointless topic but I am a running novice and I'm sure there is plenty I don't know which I should!

get some good running shoes, with SUPPORT! i love running also. especially the feeling like you are flying.. you called it gliding but i think of it as flying!
i haven't ran in awhile, but thats how i started out!! its a really good feeling when you're done. good luck to you!!!!!!0 -
Not sure what plan you found but I like the Couch to 5k plan (C25k). Its a great way to go from a non-runner to a runner. I'll admit that I stretch out the weeks if I don't feel I'm ready to move on to the next week!0

Start slow - and get good shoes or else you'll get shin splints - as if the soreness wasn't enough! And in your case, you may need a good sports bra - I don't have that problem (unfortunately).
Good luck!!0 -
I'm really glad you found a program to ease you into running. I didn't when I started and struggled. If it hadn't been for an encouraging running buddy I probably would have stopped. I'm glad I didn't as I LOVE it now. My first tip would be the program, second would be to get fitted for a good pair of shoes at a running shop (worth the investment), third grab a buddy if possible...so great for motivation and keeping you on track and finally just have fun. Some days I feel like I want to run forever and others not so much. I've learned cross training can be very helpful physically and mentally on those days when I'm just not feeling like a run. I hope all goes well!0

you need good runners pet. They may be a bit pricey (€60-€70) but they are essential. Mine have lasted for 3 years You need proper clothes to run in so they dont weigh you down or get in your way. I usually wear a t-shirt and leggings. And run with a bottle of water in your hand! Must stay hydrated at all times!
The 'interval run' is the way to go alright starting off. Before you know it you'll be a lightning bolt!! xxxx0 -
Best advice i ever got run 60 sec and walk 30 sec......I started off really slow and I also love running I just totally let it go and it was really hard to get back with it.
Now I run 5 miles 3 times a week. Once you establish your first few weeks of running then you can increase your time to run 90 sec and walk 30 and so on till you are running the whole time.
Good luck!!0 -
I started with the couch to 5K program and love it! There are lots of them out there with motivating music and they make it mindless because the tones tell you when to walk/run.
Have fun, it is addicting!0 -
