Question about sugar

I am very confused. According to MFP, I should be eating no more than 39 grams of sugar each day. But yet, if over the course of the day, I have: a banana, an apple, some grapes, and an orange, I am WAY over! How can you get enough servings of fruit in your diet, without going over on the sugar?

    You really only need one serving of fruit a day...

    I'm wondering that as well. I really try to have my sugar be all-natural, but it almost always goes over. I eat a lot of greek yogurt, fruit, coconut/regular milk, all the things that have natural sugars. I steer clear of all the artificial crap, too. People always say, "My sugar is under, and I drink Diet Coke, and use Splenda."..... which is chemically created using chlorine!

    I ignore the sugar amount if it comes from fresh fruit or vegetables. Even carrots have a lot of them, bananas etc. I would suggest worrying only about refined sugars in pastries, prepared meals, coffee, etc. I am always way over, same with fibre, etc.I have fruit and veggies with every meal. Life is good.

    The way I understood it from the Dr. Oz show..is that those sugars are the "good" sugars...and we can eat as much as we want..but still watch our cal's..I might be wrong..but thats how I took it. I normally don't worry too much about my sugar unless its coming from Junk...like koolaid or sweets or something.

    You don't need to worry too much about natural sugar that comes from fruit and milk. Don't go crazy, you really only need 2-3 servings of fruits and about twice that much of vegetables. But it's the refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup that you need to limit.

    i am always way over on my sugar. i stopped watching it. maybe you should only have one serving of fruit a day, but if i didn't have more, i would be eating chips. i figure fruit is better!

    if you are ok on cals and you are eating a balanced diet and not a lot of processed foods with corn syrup ect. wouldn't sweat it. If you are not losing then consider cutting your fruit back. Fruit has sugar but so many good antioxidants and vits- Good luck

    I've always understood it to mean that you should count and limit your "junk" sugar intake (high fructose, etc) I think (and I believe Dr. Oz said) you can eat as many fruits as you want because it's natural and good for you. Just think back to caveman days....THEY didn't limit themselves to only 1 fruit a day.
  • I think that's too much sugar when trying to lose weight plus fruits are high in carbs. You may want to switch to berries. I have heard that when you eat a fruit like an apple, it's best to eat it with some protein such as peanut butter.

    I have to disagree with some of the previous posts, you DO need to worry about it...fructose (the sugar in fruit) can spike your blood sugar..not good.....plus sugar in ANY form will prevent fat loss/burning....if you are trying to lose fat.....keep fruit and other "good" or "natural" sugars to a minimum and eliminate all other sugar...stick to the more complex carbs, like brown rice and sweet potato.
    Some vegetables have just as many if not more vitamins and nutrients that fruit offers...without the glycemic spike.....Sugar converts to fat..
