Yeaah I am so ENVIOUS. But then again think about it..if your LIFE was your sport and you had the time/had to train as hard as he does..you could eat like that too.

Too bad we all can't be olympic athletes. :grumble:

Ummm.. errrr... don't think you would look so good with his body derlin! Sure, if you wanna do his workouts, then you could do his menu, but let's face it, we're NOT Olympic athletes... maybe a part of why we're all in here?

5 hours a day in the pool, plus workouts in they gym, yep 10000 cals sounds about right. 1st, he's 6'4" and 23 years old so his maintain cals with NO exercise is probably around 3500 calories or more. Then you add on probably 1000 calories plus per hour in the pool, and then probably another 1200 to 1800 cals with the 2 hours of weights he's doing, yep 8000 to 10000 caloires is right there. I know when I was in college playing football my calorie goal (set by the trainers) was about 6000 and I was only practicing about 3 hours a day.

Michael Phelps eats 12,000 calories per day

    By Chris Chase

After he retires from swimming, Michael Phelps might want to try his hand at competitive eating. The Olympic star recently said he consumes 12,000 calories per day, or 9,500 more than the FDA recommends for an active, young male.

Phelps has to keep his intake up in order to compensate for all the calories he burns during the 30-hours per week he spends in training. He told NBC that an average day might have the following menu:

Breakfast: 3 fried egg sandwiches, 2 cups coffee, 5-egg omlette, bowl of grits, 3 pieces of french toast, 3 chocolate chip pancakes

Lunch: 1 pound pasta, 2 ham and cheese sandwiches, energy drink (1,000 calorie)

Dinner: 1 pound pasta, 1 large pizza, energy drink (1,000 calorie)

Three years ago, Phelps told an interviewer:

I eat pretty much whatever I want. I don't have a strict diet. It's all about cramming in as many calories into my system as I possibly can. To be honest with you, I have a tough time keeping weight on.

Michael better be careful there. There's no surer way to turn new female fans into former female fans than by complaining about how hard it is to keep on weight.

Don't forget the 1000 calories in energy drink to go with it. Have some sugar if you please.

I have watched in awe and amazement and admiration of Michael since I was a young teenager. I think what he represents to the world as well as the sport speaks words beyond my vocabulary. He comes from humble beginings and had a father who up and walked out on the family, to become the most decorated Olympian of all time show's the world that you are not your past you are your future and the only one that can determine your future is you. I am a very proud CANADIAN...but... when Michael is competing it is USA all the way in this house!!!!
As for the food intake OMG can you imagine being the clerk at the grocery store when he pulls up the semi into the check-out!
