Confession From a Former Poor Eater

Today is my first anniversary here on MFP. This wonderful tool helped me reach my goal back at the end of August last year. It was the perfect tool to help me reach my goal weight and that's what got me thinking about my past. I never really paid attention to the calories that I would intake and the following was one of my stupidest thoughts on how I thought I could lose weight.
I was a major hot dog eater (plus a major eater of just about anything else). Hot dogs were my lunch on Sat./Sun. I'd go through a pack of dogs during the weekend, four one day and the other four the next.
My brilliant idea to lose weight was to stop eating my hot dogs w/buns. My thinking was that hot dogs were 'some-kind-of-meat' so that means they're protein and the buns were the bad carbs that I'd always heard everyone talk about.
So I thought, "This has to work".
To no-one's surprise but mine, this plan didn't even come close to working (Damn, I was dumb).
Now, that I understand the basics of calories w/MFP I no longer feel like an idiot. Does anyone else have any stories of 'dumb' diet things they did in the past that they thought would work?
Good luck to everybody reaching their goals!

I'm no where near my goal, but in the past I always believed that just giving up soda would make it all go away... If I just gave up soda, and drank other things "juice, chocolate milk, tea (with sugar)" and so much more... NOT TRUE!0

I was eating a lot of "healthy" food, just too damn much of it. Duh!0

Good for you!!!
Yes, I thought that eating diet foods would be the way to go. I ate anything in a box labeled "low sugar" or "low fat" and thought I could eat my fill. My problem was my "fill" was way too many calories. I ate, then dieted, then ate again, until I was over 260 pounds! I did that hot dog thing with no bun too, during a few Adkin's stages, I ate hot dogs daily... and during my WW days, I ate fat free hot dogs daily.... this time with White Wheat buns to make me feel like I was being healthy. Ah yes, I've been there, done that! Oh, and my favorite food... if you can call it that... was Fat Free Pringles! Can that really have a "nutritional analysis" on the back of the can?!? There is NO nutrition in them... but hooray... NO FAT either... at least no fat that my body could process.
My new plan is to try new fruits and veggie as often as possible... checking them out. I spend lots of time learning how to prepare new foods... It's difficult to eat too many calories if you are eating healthy foods. Try getting all the anti-aging, heart friendly, and cancer fighting foods in first, and see if you have any room left to eat anything else.0
