I just started working out on a regular basis about a month and a half ago. I lost a few pounds and now I am stuck at a plateau. I am basically a stranger to the gym and am very intimidated by the machines. My dad tried to show me how to work a few of them, but I am still a little overwhelmed.

What would you suggest as a starting out point? I already nailed down which days I am going to work specific muscle groups, I just need a sequence of exercises!

I suggest you set up a training session to learn how to do everything correctly to start off with. I perosnally would skip the machines and use free weights, but thats my opinion.

Check out Oxygen magazine. It has great strength training routines every month that you can try!

Starting with machines is not a bad idea. You don't have to focus on proper form as much, which is critical in free weights, and you get a chance to develop your muscles before tackling free weights.

Best thing to do is meet with a trainer (once or twice) at your gym who will show you how to use the machines properly - proper posture, what muscles should be controlling the movement, and proper breathing. If not, there are youtube videos up the wazoo that can show you as well. Shapefit.com has a plethora of workout videos, some that may show use of machines.

Once you feel a bit stronger, you should consider incorporating free weights, with proper form, so as to strengthen your stabilizers as well.
