with you...

Here is a post that Jillian Michaels just posted to her facebook account:
"Jillian Michaels
Smart Tip: Often we struggle w/losing the last 5-15lbs because our calorie deficit is too HIGH. We misconstrue this as a "plateau", but in actuality our body is at a healthy weight, it's the aesthetic that we're unhappy with not our health. So if your cal deficit is over 1000 a day your body will signal a metabolic slow down as a survival response. No more than 1000 cal deficit a day is key for shred mode."

and here is my response (Please explain this to me, if I have misunderstood!):
"Cassi H.: I'm confused. You're saying that if you have hit a slow loss period the problem could be that you need to be eating no more then 1000 calories? I dont understand how that is realistic, if that is what you are saying. I have always been taught that our bodies need at least 1200 calories a day, and anything under that can put you into starvation mode, and prevent you from losing weight because your body holds onto it to "survive"....please tell me I just read that wrong?"

... er from what you posted she said no more than a 1000 calorie deficit. that doesn't mean eating 1000 calories

A calorie deficit is the amount of calories you burn each day, minus the amount you eat. She's saying that if you burn 2500 calories, you should be eating at LEAST 1500 calories, which is a deficit of 1000.

She is saying the deficit should be less than 1000, not your calories. For example, If you need 2300 calories to maintain your weight, you subtract from that to lose weight. So she is saying that if you need 2300 cals to maintain a day, you should eat no less than 1300 calories a day, if not more. Hope this helps.
  • Ok...DUH! That makes much more sense....

    Sorry- ignore me! LOL

1000 cals/day deficit = loss of 2lbs a week. anything more than that is generally considered unhealthy and/or hard to maintain.

Disagree with Jillian? Blasphemy! I came in to defend her but was beaten to the punch

Just tried her new 6 week 6 pack DVD today - it was rough, reminded me of the first time I did the shred. Some of the advanced options were too much. :noway:
