Fad diet from MensHealth--really?

I received an email this morning touting the New Abs Diet*. It makes claims such as it targets belly fat first. "Enjoy burritos, cheesesteaks, chili, pork chops, and bacon burgers and lose weight easily!" "...these guys are not just losing weight; they're gaining pounds of new muscle and carving out six-pack abs!" It also says:
• No calorie counting!
• No carb or fat counting!
• No "phases" or "points"!
• No weird foods or costly supplements!
I mean, what the hell!? This is MensHealth? This "diet" is apparently created by the editor of the magazine!
"The Awesome Six-Pack. See yours in a Few Weeks witht he Revolutionary New Abs Diet Plan!"
Hey, all you people working your *kitten* off for a six-pack, don't you feel like a chump now? I mean, apparently it is quick and easy and you're just doing it wrong...
Seriously, between this and the BS that came to light in their "Best and Worst Restaurants in the US^" article, I do not think MensHealth is creditable at all.

Actually, Abs Diet over all is pretty sound and the book is a pretty good read. It advocates a very healthy eating regime and strength training. Sure, it doesn't focus on calorie counting, which I agree is a mis-step and it's pretty unfortunate that the emails make it sound like a quick fix because the book itself doesn't read that way.0

Bacon burgers are part of a "very healthy eating regime?"0 -
I don't believe that it lists bacon burgers in the book. I think that reference is also because the same editor writes the "Eat this, Not that" book series in which he points out that some things are actually better for you than others. Usually in the case of bacon, the point made is that people substitute turkey bacon many times for pork bacon, thinking it is better for you as it would be lower in fat, however the turkey bacon is usually infused with a very high amount of sodium.
I don't think it's really fair to judge something without actually investigating it. Admittedly, the adverts they email out lately sure have all of the indications of a wonky, hyped-up fad diet, but if you read the book, you'll see its not like that at all.0
