ok...need some help from my MFP friends- so the last few weeks i have been pushing really hard- exercising almost every day and i have been eating pretty good and i have been under my goal by about 300-500 cals (staying over 1200 tho) almost every day for 2 weeks! sounds pretty good right...last week i gained a pound and this week i lost 1...i dont understand why im pushing so hard and eating so much less than i did months ago and im not losing like i did then...i mean i think my scale hates me because it was at 220...then 221...now 220...im like AHHHH why cant i reach the teens!!!!! ...any advice on why the exercise and better eating isnt really doing anything now?

Are you eating enough calories for all the working out you are doing? That was my problem. I wasn't eating enough. When I upped my caloric intake for a week..it tipped me over the plateau..and I lost 5 pounds. Everyone's body is different though..but that is something I would try at least.

Have you tried taking your measurements. I know for me the scale moves very slow. You probably arent seeing the scale move bc you are converting Fat to Muscle. Which in the long run is a good thing the more muscle you have the more calories you burn without doing anything. Just keep up the good work and start taking measurements and you will see a difference.

Don't get frustrated. Think of all the good you have done and realize EVERYONE plateaus at some point. Have you changed up your workouts? After time your body will adapt and will need to give it a kick in order to start losing again.
  • thanks these are all good ideas...i havent really measured much...but i can tell the difference...and i do wonder if i am not eating quite enough...i guess i could up it for a week and see what happens...and maybe a new exercise routine would help

    I vote for eating more.

Go to the tools and find out what your BMR is (this is what you burn laying around all day doing NOTHING). Try eating closer to that and see if it doesn't start to move the scale again.

I did this recently and lost 2 pounds this week. My BMR is close to 1500. I don't do a lot of exercise but try to sneak in what I can when I can here and there.

You are doing very good Sweetie!

I do not recommend eating more quite yet. If you were in onederland (under 180 or so) I would recommend maybe. As I think I have told you I am not a big fan of this but it will not hurt to try it.

Before I make any recommendations, I have some questions. Do you eat back your exercise calories and if so how many? And are you using a HRM for exercise that you do? I think you told me you do not but I can't remember for sure. I think you said the bike has a HRM but you do not have one for all activities. please confirm.
  • always look at it this way...your improving your body. it may be slow but its going in the Right direction!....if you are feeling better and seeing ANY improvement, no matter how small or slow..it is AN IMPROVEMENT!....you are doing a wonderful thing!! Keep up the dedication and it will reward you !!
  • Yea thanks...I'll have to try that!

So...hate to be the one to bring this up- but if you are female there could be a monthly/water weight etc. issue here. I sometimes hold on to an extra 3lbs for more than a week or two depending on where I am in the cycle.

Maybe re-enter your goals on here again? I was playing around with it and it was set to my current weight (down 7 pounds from when I first set my goals) and it gave me a new calorie limit. Maybe it will just take a little readjusting to get back to where you want to be. And sometimes are bodies are silly and don't quite react the way we want as fast as we want. It sounds like you're doing the right things!
