Good morning runners!

I had a speed workout this morning. It went like this:

1 mile warm-up
2 800s w/ a jog break in between
4 100s w/ a small jog break in between
1.5 mile cool down

I REALLY did not want to get up this morning and run, but it makes finishing the workout that much sweeter. :)

Have a fabulous day!

    Good morning all!

    Ran 4.5 miles this morning.

Is it just me or are the days getting shorter? I was up and ready to run at 5:30am and it was so dark so I waited until 5:50am. It was still dark and didn't get lighter until about 6:15am. I guess the cloud cover didn't help but still.

What do you guys and gals do about the shorter days? Do you continue to run in the dark? My neighborhood is relatively safe but you never know.

I ran 4.5 with one of my friends today. She's on the cross country team, so it was a pretty quick speed.

I usually run in the dark, I've gotten used to it. I don't go places without lights on the street though.

I totally dogged 7 miles tonight. I'm not sure what my problem was, but I completely struggled. Does anyone ever get a sharp pain in their shoulder while running? It is weird - this is the second day in a row that I've felt it. I push through it and eventually it goes away, but it is still odd.

    Hessied,

I took your post from yesterdays and posted it here.

I did get them on occasion and they also went away after a few minutes. I found out that it could be due to bad posture while running so I try to stand taller and relax my shoulders when I run.

    Anybody else have any suggestions?

No running this morning but I am doing a 5k tonight. I am running with someone who wants to finish in under 30 minutes so I am going to push it.

Mireille, our little running club continues to run at the same time so we do run in the dark. There is a group of us so that does make a difference. If I had to run by myself, I don't know that I would do it in the dark. I would wait until it got lighter out unless it intereferes with getting to work. If that is the case find a running buddy and carry mace or pepper spray. Be safe.

    Morning Troops!

I worry about twisting my ankle or falling on my face when it's dark. There's a good chance of that happening in broad daylight, but I REALLY worry about it when I can't see.

    No run for me today, but will be tackling my 7-year-olds room. {{EEEEKKKK}}

Me: "This is broken & you never play with it. Let's throw it away."

Her: CrossedArms.gif No, I still love it.

Me: "We're getting rid of it!!" wifeteeny.gif

    Her:

    Fun, fun, fun!!!! dance.gif

Good luck to everyone today!! :smooched:

Today was my cardio and wts at the gym morning and yoga in the evening.

    Running will be tomorrow morning.

Even with logging and exercising I gained 2 lbs. Bummer but not a deal breaker. Still I trudge on. I just wonder if I really should be eating all the exercise calories. If my wt keeps going up I may have to re-evaluate my calorie amounts but I will give it some more time.

I meet up with a running group as well, but you can also get some reflective shirts or a vest if you don't feel comfortable running in the dark. Stick with a path you know, too.

Days are definitely getting shorter. I noticed too how dark it was this morning. I won't run in the dark. I live out in the country where there are no sidewalks or even very good shoulders on the roads, so I don't want to risk getting hit. I just signed up for our local college's Rec-Fitness center though. They have an indoor track, cardio machines, and a full weight room (as well as pool & hot tub). So, starting Sept. 1, I'll have a place to run and work out, no matter the weather, or the lighting. I can't wait!

I ran about a mile last night. I've been having some lower leg pain on my left side and have been babying it for a few days to see if I can pinpoint the source. The pain is in my calf muscle, but I think it's due to ankle and knee weakness. I also ran Monday night and REALLY struggled. So, after my dds' soccer practices we went to the sporting goods store. My oldest needed new shin guards and I picked up an ankle sleeve and a knee brace. I ran my mile last night and it felt really good. So, I think the added support will help me out in the long run. It took a little getting used to the knee brace, but I did my mile in a little over 12 minutes and felt really good afterwards. If it's not raining tonight, I'm gonna go farther and longer....

I noticed this morning also that it was darker longer. I even set my alarm later a few minutes because last week I had to wait for the sun. I wish I could run while still dark, but we don't have street lights and a lot of dogs that I wouldn't be able to see like coyote's. If I wasn't working I would just run later, but now that I am back to work I will have to use the treadmill or run after work. The only thing with running after work, will I go? and is it going to be good weather?

I got in almost 4 miles today 3.92 or something, but I did it really slow because my daughter started with me and I hold back for her and for some reason even after breaking off from her, I just kept a slower pace. But it was enjoyable anyway. It was a nice break from pushing real hard the last couple of weeks.

    Catch you guys after work,
    SM

Shannon, I feel your pain and I wouldn't call it a rest day, maybe more of a wrestling day...kids & their toys.

3 miles today for me and then body pump tonight with husband.

    Hi guys,

First time posting with you. I'll have a track workout with a running club tonight. It calls for 1.5 mile warm up (I'll get about 3/4 in) then 2 x 2400m with a 800m recovery jog in between and finish with a mile cool down. I plan on 7 1/2 mile pace for the speed part.

    Run safe.

No run for me today. It was a chest and back workout, all pullups and pushups. Hope to get a run in Friday (if it doens't rain.

Pain in the shoulder can be caused by tension. Make sure to keep shoulders down, chest up. I have had this a few times as well, needed to consciously relax that part of my body.

Yep, the days are getting shorter. Can't believe summer is almost done. Not that we had much up here (so much rain!!)

    Have a great day

    Hi Everyone!
I finally was able to go out with the running club last night to test out my knee. I did the whole workout but just walked it and feel fine today! Next workout I will try to ease back into running. My first 5K was supposed to be on Labor Day. I may just run/walk it and try for another 5K run when my knee is stronger.

Good to be back and to catch up on you all!

Ask P90X Dude - he has a forum for questions just like this and I bet he would help (Physical trainer type)

My husband gets this and it is due to uneven muscle build and poor posture, he has to really stretch it out pre and post exercise. Also, there are a few exercises you can try.. but -- I am wondering if you mean a sharp pain or a dull pain, pulling/extending - does it travel? I sometimes get this too and I wonder if it is more than muscle related... hope you get an answer!

    Bunny,

I was looking up the same issue this morning.

    http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_5/194.shtml

I figured my new stooooopid shoes were part of my problem  , but weak quad muscles can be the culprit too.

    Good luck! :flowerforyou:

I just got the best news!!
This marathon mom who lives in my neighborhood just e-mailed me asking to join her for morning runs at our local gym!!
I am so psyched because I could learn so much from her. The last full marathon she ran, she did it in 2hrs 30 minutes!! She's definitely a veteran and I look forward to getting up at 4:30am to run with her!! Getting up at this time will be an adjustment but it will only be 3 times a week. No more running by myself in the dark!!!

Can you feel the floors shaking? That's cuz I'm dancing!!! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Yeahhhh!!!!! :drinker: :drinker: Glad to hear you won't be running in the dark or by yourself. Once you get used to getting up at 4:30 you will probably do it every day. I get up at 4:15 for bootcamp and I can't sleep past 6:00 on the weeknds.

*sigh*, no running for me today, I have baseball tonight, and you may not think it's a workout, but if you try to run the day of a game, you don't have a good game, trust me, I've done it before. So on days like today, I just do some yoga and core work in the morning. it makes me sad though, cuz I would have loved to run today. Looks like tomorrow will be a 5 mile speed run for me.

OH I love a good running partner!! You have to keep posting any excellent tips you get. I have been running solo in the mornings..yes in the dark!!! I was running past a grave yard last week in the dark, watching out for zombies and got dive bombed by a bat...YIKES!

Today I had a partner to run with...She is a great runner and pushes my speed. We went about 6 1/2 in 42 minutes. I think I lost a lung!

    Happy Running!
