easter! what are YOU going to do about holiday eating

I love the holidays, and I have not been home to my family's for easter in 8 years. We have been cooking up a storm and I am very excited. I am also concerned of the next 3 days of food comma and excessive alcohol......

Sooo I have offered to make a couple of dishes that are made mostly of veggies and are less fattening than the usual faves at a eastern euro easter....

I will also going encourage the whole fam to take walks every day after dinner.

What are you going to do to not completely derail yourself?

My bfs family makes ham, which I dont eat and very fattening mashed potatoes. I am bringing a fruit salad and a healthy pasta salad.

we are having roast leg of lamb (ala Ina Garten '4 hour roast lamb' .. soooooooo good!), some sorta potato side dish my daughter is making (she is also here in mfp so i know she will choose something good for everyone *S*)... steamed broccoli and carrots, some delicious artisan asiago whole grain bread...and for dessert, angelfoodcake, with fresh strawberries with greek yogurt sweetened with honey.

    i can't wait! *drools*

I made desert for myself so I know how many calories are in it. One of my granola/blueberry bars is 200 calories so I'll know not to over indulge. I also plan on exercising tomorrow so I don't feel guilty about eating the stuffing/other things in moderation.

I like to eat a cucumber, celery, etc... before I meet with the others... so I'm not at all hungry. That way I have had few calories, and yet can make wise choices on portion size. I find it difficult to smell all those yummy foods and control portion size when I'm hungry.

I did the cooking so I could count EVERYTHING. I'm already over for the day but a quick trip to the gym will fix that

I like to roast my veggies... makes them sweet. I even roast broccoli! Really, it's quite tasty! When I'm making it just for myself, I like to roast them in the toaster oven so I don't feel guilty about heating the whole oven. It takes less time too. Roasted veggies are a staple in my home. Even my kids will eat them.

We're doing ham sandwiches instead of a big dinner, so I am having one with whole wheat and my pasta dish I am bringing (since I know exactly what's in it) I opted for no snacks unless they are fruits, veggies or maybe chips and salsa.

I am doing the cooking, so I'm not worried about it. I'm roasting a chicken, making sweet potato mash and some roasted or steamed vegetables.

I am planning ahead for the big dinner on Sunday. I am making dessert and eating a high fiber food an hour before I go so as to feel full and not over eat. Planning a easter egg hunt to involve the whole family to get everyone moving. I then plan on a light super to keep on track. Happy Holiday to everyone:)

I am going to eat a bunch of ham. I love spiral ham and rarely get it.

I ate normal today, saturday is my dinner so i can eat whatever i want then sunday back to normal
however on sun i might have to budget in a few cal for chocolate or workout a little to have some
but sun is usually my rest day.

Also on sat i am going to workout harder/longer so i can burn off some of the excess.

I think I need to do the high fiber meal an hour before I go... so I eat less & plan on a protein shake for dinner. I will be doing an extensive workout first thing Monday.

I am going to try to keep Sat business as usual, and then we have our big celebration on Sun. We always put out veggie trays (I usually try to skip the dip, but I might try plain yogurt with ranch or italian seasoning mix) when we have family get togethers. I give myself free reign on the veggies while cooking, so I keep the "taste testing" to a min and am a little full by the time I sit down to dinner.

as a matter of fact my first plan was to have roasted veg... brussels sprouts and broccoli, and hubby requested NOT roasted, sadly :(
(and i do not personally like brussels sprouts any other way than roasted *L*... so carrots are the stand-in with steaming *L*)

Oh how I wish I had a plan. I just made Easter cookies with my boys and feel ill from the butter cream icing. I licked the beaters, the knives from the frosting cups, my fingers... I think it is going to be one of two extremes for me Sunday: 1. my family's traditional eastern European Easter meal of fat and sodium will turn my stomach, and I will stick to my daily allowances or 2. years of bad habits rule, I feel miserable, and spend an entire week making up for one bad day..

I'm taking a "free weekend". I might still do my workouts, but I'm not worrying about it. Back to business Monday.

My mom makes the BEST ham, but this year she's not making it! Perfect way to avoid holiday eating :)

I feel kind of bad for not making plans with her though, but I thought she didn't want to do anything!
