Super tired... but can't sleep at night.

I've been a good girl for the last 3 days by hitting the gym and keeping under my calorie goal (1700 at the moment). I usually work out between 6 and 7 for an hour, mostly cardio, with about 15 min. of strength. I eat before and after my workouts, usually dinner before and then a small snack as a reward for the gym. I **TRY** to go to bed around 11:30 and I just lie there wide awake until nearly 2. I have so much energy post workout I just can't calm down. I can't work out any earlier, and they say as long as you give yourself 3 hours before bed you should be okay. Now after 3 nights of 4-5 hours of sleep I am drained and I don't have the energy for the gym. And being tired makes me hungry so all I want is to eat (I'm not giving in to that). Does anyone else have this problem and any ideas on how to solve it?

Would it be possible to go to the gym in the morning? I used to be an evening gym person (after work), but my wife eventually transitioned me to a morning workout person. I love it. I find it is a great way to start the day.

If that is not an option, I would consider trying meditation.

Sometimes this is a sign of overtraining, but that doesn't sound like the problem in your case.

How are you doing with caffeinated beverages? It's best to knock those off no later than 2PM, so they won't disrupt your sleep.

One thing that I've discovered really helps, which I discovered when my TV died and I was waiting for the new one to be delivered, is turning off the TV a few hours before you waant to go to sleep. I routinely fell asleep between 9 and 10 PM that week, instead of the usual midnight or so time.

My sleep specialist gave me the same advice. Turn off the TV. Mindless games on the computer are OK as it's not "flashy" like the tv. Do you read? I was never a morning gym person but it's the only time I get to go now and I LOVE it (even if it takes away an hour of sleep). I find I sleep better at night now too! From an insomniac, that's a huge improvement!! Feel better!!
  • Might be dehydration. I find I get really tired and can't sleep well when I'm dehydrated.
