Pre-Easter Jitters. Any Suggestions?

I am wondering if any else is feeling nervous about Easter as I am.
My parents who know and in the past at least have supported my weight loss have both looked at me and said "You are going to let yourself eat on Easter right?"
When they mean "let yourself eat" they mean like 6 hotdogs, 5 potatoes, 5 slices of bread. The way I used to eat.
I sorta just been cringing and nodding, because I don't know a polite way to say "I would really like your support with me using portian control."
Any suggestions on how to handle this?
I have tried to hint to them about this, and they are both like "Its easter... The whole family will be there"

Just do your own thing.0

I'm having the same issue with my family. Drink lots of water, move food around on your plate, and distract them with funny stories. And stay away from the chocolate. It'll be OK.0

Eat - but chose the healthier options. If someone isn't taking one - take a veggie tray. Keep your water full and drink it - then you can honestly say you aren't very hungry. don't be afraid to splurge a little - just get back on track on Monday. Another thing that might help - eat before you go, then you won't be quite as tempted.
I plan to log what I eat - I KNOW I will be over most likely, but I plan to get right back on board on Monday. I gave up candies and sweets for lent too - did great, so it will definitely be my "cheat day" on sweets - I plan to have some, but not a lot.
Remember - it's your body, it's your choice what you put in it.
Good luck and just remember, if you fall off, jump back onboard on Monday.0 -
I'm absolutely terrified for Easter! It's a huge feast around my house with neighbors and family and pure chaos (did i mention enough food for a small army?!). I figure I'll have to defend myself all through dinner about my choices and portions, but I will work out before and I will eat within my calories. I am too motivated and heading in the right direction so strongly for the first time in my life that I will not let unsupportive loved ones hinder that.
You are so strong, and an amazing person for setting out on this journey. Stick to your guns. You're the only one who has to live in your body.0 -
I totally feel you on that! I have lots of plans this weekend and it's going to be hard. So, I have decided in advance what to eat and where and how much. I feel really good about it. Let them see you eat a couple chocolate easter eggs, or just eat in front of them. If they give you The Look, just call them on it. Say, am I eating enough for you now? They are pushing the issue, not you. Your MFP friends know how it is. just be done when you know you ought to be done. Don't let them boss you around. You're an adult, like me, and sometimes that's hard for parents to adjust to but they must. You are worthy of their respect.0

First off thank you all for posting. I am going to take all your posts into consideration.I totally feel you on that! I have lots of plans this weekend and it's going to be hard. This really hit home for me. I thank you for saying it. I am normally a very VERY strong willed person except when it comes to my parents. I have always learned to respect them and to never talk back. If they say eat I say "How Much" they say jump I say "How High". Yet, Your right. I am a adult even if I do still live under their roof.
It is up to me to take charge. It is just so hard, because everyone here knows you are going to want to give into that temptation. Just thinking about it is making my mouth water. I just wish they could see how much it is bothering me and not ignore it...0 -

There is nothing impolite about saying "I would really like your support with me using portion control". It is the best way to get through to families sometimes, to tell them the truth and sometimes dont dance around the problem.
If you family only gives you "bad" options on food, like white bread, hot dogs and other nasties then make sure you drink water before each meal so you are fuller. Eat less of those foods, and try and look for salad options and fruit, even if you need to take your own. In fact, offer to help cater with your family by providing a dish like a delicious fruit salad, use lots of different coloured fruits, berries etc, and I usually buy a whole watermelon and use that as the bowl - scoop out the watermelon and fill it with fruit!
Looks amazing, most people can't wait to try it and all of a sudden you might be the Easter Hero!
Turn things around for yourself by taking control, maybe more than you're used to. Educating your family is hard, but you need to stick with it, eventually they will see the efforts you have put in and might even question themselves0 -
Love this post- I totally need the advice too!0
