Muscle water retention

Hi-

I started strength training last week for 30 min 3xs a week. 75 lunges, 75 squats and 20 minutes of arms exercises...working my biceps/triceps/back/etc. I have been over or right around 2500mg of sodium but sodium weight usually goes away after a few days. My muscles are not sore but my weight has gone from 151 to 154-156.5 this whole week! When does water retention go away?

Thanks for any advice or info!

Happy Easter!

  • It takes at least 4 weeks, if I remember correctly, for our muscles to get rid of the 70% water they retain to help repair themselves when we start lifting. The same thing has happened to me when I first started strength training.

I had to switch to using a measuring tape so I don't get discouraged because of the scale. Hang in there!!!
