I started MFP 5 days ago and I already lost 2 pounds, however I just noticed that besides the calorie intake I've been going over my fat or protein limit. Do you guys follow the limit as well or do you just go with the calories?

i customized my diet parameters to meet my goals. I am eating lower carb since i am diabetic. So, i adjusted my daily limits. All of them can be customized. It is located in the goals section. My diet is 60% fat, 30% protein, 10% carb. So, if my wacky diet can be put into MFP, any can!

It's a good idea to watch your saturated fat intake but if you have just "FAT" tracked on your diary it will count all fats good an bad. It's a good idea to try to balance everything as best as you can but you have to start somewhere. Pick your battles but remember the war is for HEALTH not just weight loss.

As for the protein, MFP is quite low. Depending on what you're doing for workouts, your protein levels will fluctuate. Some people do more on higher protein (me for example) others do better balanced and some do better with more carbs and less fat. It's YOUR journey so you have to do what YOUR body tells you.
  • I always try to go over my protein and fiber limit. I usually do about 2/3 of my fat limit. A calorie is a calorie - so it really doesn't matter where they come from for weight loss. You may want to analyze your fat intake and if they are healthy fats leave it alone. If not, you'll know where to cut down.

I follow the calorie limit and try to stay within a 30% or less fat consumption. I do not worry about the carbs and protiens (one being under and one being over, occasionally).

Im only new too and at the moment trying to work out what Im doing so not taking lots of notice of the fat/protein yet. Being diabetic Im more interested in the carbs followed by the calories. Will work on the rest when I get that part sorted.
